Subway and rail service changes: August 9-12, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! We're looking forward to some perfect summer weather this weekend, so whether you're heading to the National Dominican Day Parade, Harlem Week, or just the beach, public transit is the way to go.

It's a big weekend for the  as we transition from Phase 2 to Phase 3 of our summer service changes.  trains still aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs until Sunday night. Overnight Sunday into Monday,  trains won't run at all. Starting Monday morning,  trains won't run between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av, and service between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs will be restored. Learn more about this summer's service changes, which last until September 3. 

A note for our 14 St riders: The passageway between the ​​​​​​​​ and ​​​​​ stations is closed this weekend. A free out-of-station street transfer is available using OMNY or MetroCard.

And if you're traveling to JFK airport this weekend, note that  trains aren't running to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport . Take the  to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport  or the  to Howard Beach-JFK Airport .

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
  • Downtown ​ trains are running on the ​ from W 4 St-Washington Sq to 2 Av and uptown ​ trains are running on the ​ from 2 Av to 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center.
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St.
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq.
  •  Franklin Av Shuttle isn't running at all.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running in Brooklyn from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take  trains.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the , which is running to/from New Lots Av all weekend, including overnight.
    • Transfer between  and  trains at Fulton St.
  •  trains are running between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.

 trains, Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, downtown  trains are running on the  from W 4 St-Washington Sq to 2 Av and uptown  trains are running on the  from 2 Av to 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Center, resuming service at 5 Av/53 St. This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the .
  • For service to/from 50 St and 23 St, take a downtown  or  local train or use nearby  stops along 6 Av.
  • For service to/from 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, 34 St-Penn Station, and 14 St, take  trains or use nearby  stops along 6 Av.
  • For service to/from Spring St, take a downtown  or  local train.
  • For service to/from Canal St and Chambers St (World Trade Center) take  trains.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av take free B90 shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • When exiting the subway at Church Av or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take ​​​ trains.
  • For service to W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the ​.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs through 8:30 p.m. Sunday because of signal modernization work.

  • Free B98 shuttle buses are running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs, making all  stops.
    • Re-enter the subway with OMNY or MetroCard at Court Sq , Metropolitan Av/Lorimer St , or Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
  • Subway alternatives between Brooklyn and Queens via Manhattan may be faster than the shuttle bus. Consider the  and/or  trains.
  •  trains are running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av.

 trains aren't running at all from 8:30 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday.

  • Free B98 shuttle buses are running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs, making all  stops.
  • Free B93 shuttle buses are running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Jay St-MetroTech ​​​​​​​​, making all ​​ stops between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn ​​​.
  •  trains are still making all ​​ stops between Bergen St and Church Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between 121 St and Crescent St, free J90 shuttle buses are running between Jamaica Van-Wyck  and Crescent St, making all  stops between 121 St and Crescent St.
    • When exiting the subway at Jamaica-Van Wyck or Crescent St, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service to/from Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport , take the .
  •  trains are running between Crescent St and Broad St.

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility work.

  • For service between 8 Av, 6 Av, and 14 St-Union Sq, take free L92 shuttle buses or the M14.
    • When exiting the subway at these stations, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  •  trains are running between 14 St-Union Sq and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy, every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 Franklin Av Shuttle, Brooklyn

 Franklin Av Shuttle trains aren't running from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of the St Marks Av Bridge replacement.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Franklin Av and Prospect Park, making all  Franklin Av Shuttle stops.
  • When exiting the subway at Franklin Av , Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College  (Botanic Garden), or Prospect Park , get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and  local trains are making express stops from Times Sq-42 St to 96 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.
  • All day Saturday,  trains are running every 8 minutes and  trains are running every 12 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx

Woodlawn-bound  trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse from 10:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from this station:
    • During the day and evening, take the .
    • Overnight, take a Manhattan-bound 

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping between E 180 St and 3 Av-149 St from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown  train.
  •  trains are running every 20 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, the Bronx

Pelham Bay Park-bound  trains aren't stopping from Hunts Point Av to Parkchester from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • During the day and evening, ​​​ trains are running every 12 minutes in the Bronx. The last stop for alternate Bronx-bound trains is 3 Av-138 St. Transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound train to continue your trip.

 trains, Queens

Flushing-bound  trains are making express stops from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of structural improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • At Junction Blvd, all trains will board from the Manhattan-bound platform.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and  local trains are making express stops from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.

 trains, Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Manhattan-bound  and  local trains are making express stops from 59 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Manhattan-bound  local trains aren't stopping from 36 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. This is because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from 53 St or 45 St, take a Bay Ridge-bound ​ or Coney Island-bound ​​ local train.
  • For service to/from stations between 36 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take a Bay Ridge-bound  or Coney Island-bound  local train.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

During the day and evening Saturday and Sunday,  trains are running every 10 minutes because of track replacement.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

All branches

Most LIRR trains are running on a modified schedule from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday because of switch installation.

  • Ronkonkoma Branch trains are running hourly and all daytime Ronkonkoma Branch trains are running to Penn Station.
    • Transfer at Jamaica for service to Grand Central.
  • Eastbound Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branch trains aren't stopping at Hollis, Queens Village, Elmont-UBS Arena, or Floral Park.
    • For service to/from this station, take a Hempstead Branch train.
  • Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branch trains aren't running from 2:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday.
  • Check TrainTime or Schedules to plan your trip.
