Subway and rail service changes: August 23-26, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and Metro-North this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday, and welcome to the last full weekend in August! We're looking forward to some perfect summer weather this weekend. Whether you're headed to the last weekend of US Open Fan Week, enjoying Summer Streets in Brooklyn or the Bronx, or enjoying the weekend some other way, public transit is the way to the weekend's summer fun.

If you're traveling to JFK airport this weekend, note that  trains aren't running to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport . Take the  to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport  or the  to Howard Beach-JFK Airport .

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St in either direction and are replacing ​ trains between Eastchester-Dyre Av and 149 St-Grand Concourse.
  •  trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
  •  trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and Times Sq-42 St.
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St.

Major subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx

From 3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday,  trains aren't running between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St in either direction and are replacing  trains between Eastchester-Dyre Av and 149 St-Grand Concourse in both directions. This is because of structural maintenance. 

  • For service between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St, take free shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • As an alternative, consider taking crosstown buses to  stations.
  • For service between Eastchester-Dyre Av and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take the .
  •  trains are running between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and E 180 St, and on the  to/from Eastchester-Dyre Av.
  •  trains are running between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green, every 20 minutes during the day and evening.
  • Woodlawn-bound  and 149 St-bound  trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. 
    • For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound .

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running in Brooklyn from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take  trains.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the , which is running to/from New Lots Av all weekend, including overnight.
    • Transfer between  and  trains at Fulton St.
  •  trains are running between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.

 trains, Manhattan and Queens

 trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and Times Sq-42 St from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 4:30 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For direct service between Manhattan and Queens, take  trains.
    • Special weekend  service is running between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Whitehall St every 20 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
  • The LIRR Port Washington Branch will accommodate subway riders at no additional cost for service between Mets-Willets Point, Woodside, Grand Central, and Penn Station.
  • Free Q93 shuttle buses are making  stops between Queensboro Plaza and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av.
  •  42 St Shuttle trains are running all weekend, including overnight.
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Flushing-Main St and Queensboro Plaza, every 8 minutes during the day and evening.
    • Between Times Sq-42 St and 34 St-Hudson Yards, every 10 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av take free B90 shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • When exiting the subway at Church Av or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take ​​​ trains.
  • For service to W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the ​.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av until Tuesday, September 3 because of signal modernization work.

  • Free B93 shuttle buses are running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Jay St-MetroTech , making all  stops between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn .
  • Re-enter the subway with OMNY or MetroCard at Bedford-Nostrand Avs, Hoyt-Schermerhorn , or Jay St-MetroTech .
  •  trains are making local stops between Myrtle Av and Marcy Av at all times.
    • Use OMNY or MetroCard for a free out-of-system transfer between Broadway  and Hewes St  or Lorimer St .
  •  trains are running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs at all times, every 10 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between 121 St and Crescent St, free J90 shuttle buses are running between Jamaica Van-Wyck  and Crescent St, making all  stops between 121 St and Crescent St.
    • When exiting the subway at Jamaica-Van Wyck or Crescent St, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service to/from Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport , take the .
  •  trains are running between Crescent St and Broad St.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and  local trains aren't stopping at 68 St-Hunter College from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday because of communications improvement work.

  • For service to/from this station, take an uptown local train. Or, consider nearby 59 St or 77 St stations or M101, M102, or M103 buses making stops along Lexington Av.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  trains aren't stopping at 175 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 11:45 p.m. Saturday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from this station, take an uptown train.

Uptown  trains aren't stopping at 175 St from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a downtown train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Bay Ridge-bound  and Coney Island-bound  local trains are making express stops from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 59 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from Union St, 4 Av-9 St, Prospect Av, and 25 St, take the , which is making local stops between DeKalb Av and 36 St all weekend.
  • For service to/from 45 St and 53 St, take a Manhattan-bound local train.

Metro-North Railroad service changes

Danbury Branch

Trains aren't running between South Norwalk and Danbury from 4:30 a.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Monday.

  • Buses are replacing trains between South Norwalk and Danbury.
    • Inbound buses will leave earlier than scheduled trains.
    • Express and local buses will be available for some trains.
    • View the full bus schedule.
  • On Friday, through trains aren't running. 
    • Some rush-hour New Haven Line trains are running on modified schedules with added stops at Noroton Heights, Darien, and Rowayton. 
    • Check TrainTime or Schedules to see if your trip has been affected.
