Subway and rail service changes: August 16-19, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! It's yet another summer weekend, and we hope you have plans to take advantage of it—whether that means having fun outdoors or staying out of the heat.

If you're traveling to JFK airport this weekend, note that  trains aren't running to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport . Take the  to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport  or the  to Howard Beach-JFK Airport .

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  • Downtown  trains aren't stopping from 137 St-City College to 96 St.
  •  ​trains aren't running between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St and are replacing ​ trains between Eastchester-Dyre Av and 149 St-Grand Concourse.
  •  trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Church Av-bound ​ trains are running on the ​ from W 4 St-Washington Sq to Jay St-MetroTech.
  •  trains aren't running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St.
  •  Franklin Av Shuttle isn't running.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  trains aren't stopping from 137 St-City College to 96 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

 trains, the Bronx

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday,  trains aren't running between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St in either direction and are replacing  trains between Eastchester-Dyre Av and 149 St-Grand Concourse in both directions. This is because of structural maintenance. 

  • For service between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St, take free shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • As an alternative, consider taking crosstown buses to  stations.
  • For service between Eastchester-Dyre Av and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take the .
  •  trains are running between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and E 180 St, and on the  to/from Eastchester-Dyre Av.
  •  trains are running between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green, every 20 minutes during the day and evening.
    • 149 St-bound  trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse. For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound .

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running in Brooklyn from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take  trains.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the , which is running to/from New Lots Av all weekend, including overnight.
    • Transfer between  and  trains at Fulton St.
  •  trains are running between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av take free B90 shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • When exiting the subway at Church Av or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take ​​​ trains.
  • For service to W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the ​.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av.

Church Av-bound  trains are running on the  from W 4 St-Washington Sq to Jay St-MetroTech from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Broadway-Lafayette St, take the .
  • For service to/from 2 Av and East Broadway, take a Queens-bound .
  • For service to/from Delancey St-Essex St, take the .
  • For service to/from York St, use nearby High St .

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av until Tuesday, September 3 because of signal modernization work.

  • Free B93 shuttle buses are running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Jay St-MetroTech , making all  stops between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn .
  • Re-enter the subway with OMNY or MetroCard at Bedford-Nostrand Avs, Hoyt-Schermerhorn , or Jay St-MetroTech .
  •  trains are making local stops between Myrtle Av and Marcy Av at all times.
    • Use OMNY or MetroCard for a free out-of-system transfer between Broadway  and Hewes St  or Lorimer St .
  •  trains are running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs at all times, every 10 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between 121 St and Crescent St, free J90 shuttle buses are running between Jamaica Van-Wyck  and Crescent St, making all  stops between 121 St and Crescent St.
    • When exiting the subway at Jamaica-Van Wyck or Crescent St, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service to/from Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport , take the .
  •  trains are running between Crescent St and Broad St.

 Franklin Av Shuttle, Brooklyn

 Franklin Av Shuttle trains aren't running from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of the St Marks Av Bridge replacement.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Franklin Av and Prospect Park, making all  Franklin Av Shuttle stops.
  • When exiting the subway at Franklin Av , Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College  (Botanic Garden), or Prospect Park , get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and  local trains are making express stops from Grand Central-42 St to 125 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 20 minutes and  trains are running every 8 minutes while  trains share a track in Manhattan.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and local  trains aren't stopping from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown local train.

 trains, the Bronx

Norwood-bound  trains aren't stopping at 170 St and 174-175 Sts from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at Halsey St from 11:45 p.m Friday to 12 noon Saturday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Canarsie-bound train. Or, consider nearby Myrtle-Wyckoffs Avs or Wilson Av stations.

Canarsie-bound  trains aren't stopping at Halsey St from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 12 noon Sunday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound train. Or, consider nearby Wilson Av or Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs stations.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Far Rockaway and Long Beach branches

Trains aren't stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, and Rosedale in either direction from 11 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • Buses are running hourly between Jamaica and Valley Stream, stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, and Rosedale.
  • Long Beach Branch trains are running on revised schedules.

Port Jefferson Branch

Trains aren't running between Hicksville and Port Jefferson in either direction from 10 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Monday because of switch replacement and bridge repair work.

  • Buses are replacing trains between Hicksville and Port Jefferson.
  • Local travel between some station combinations east of Huntington may not be possible.
  • To avoid busing, consider using stations on the Ronkonkoma Branch.
  • Oyster Bay and Ronkonkoma branch trains are running on revised schedules.
