How to get to Jones Beach on public transit

Find out how to get to Jones Beach on MTA trains.

Jones Beach is open from Memorial Day weekend through mid-September. No tickets or passes are required. Other parts of the state park are open year-round.

The Jones Beach Theater also hosts concerts throughout the summer.

How to get to Jones Beach on public transit

By LIRR and NICE Bus: Take the Long Island Rail Road's Babylon Branch to Freeport station, and transfer there for NICE's n88 bus, which runs non-stop to the beach.

Fare information: We offer a package ticket for $21.50 ($17.50 from Jamaica) that includes round-trip train and bus fare from New York City. Buy the package at a gray, blue, or green LIRR ticket machine, or from a ticket office.

If you already have an LIRR ticket, the NICE bus fare is $2.75, payable with MetroCard or by using the GoMobile app. You cannot use OMNY on the NICE bus.

Tips for getting to the beach

  • Buy your LIRR ticket before you board. You can buy tickets at a ticket office or at a vending machine, or in the MTA TrainTime app.
  • NICE buses run every 30 minutes on weekends and every hour on weekdays. View the schedule.
  • Allow plenty of time. You may need to transfer or take a different line to finish your trip. Learn more about planned service changes.

Option 1: Take the LIRR and NICE bus to Jones Beach

Take a Babylon Branch train from Penn Station, Grand Central, Jamaica, or other local stops to Freeport, where you will transfer to a NICE bus. Note: Not all trains stop at Freeport, so plan your trip beforehand with the TrainTime app.

Exit at Freeport station and go downstairs, where the n88 bus stops. The n88 makes three stops along the beach at the West Bathhouse, Central Mall, and East Bathhouse.

NICE will run special bus service for 90 minutes before and after concerts. The theater is a short walk from the East Bathhouse bus stop.
