Subway service changes: July 5-8, 2024

There are service changes on the subway this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

TGIF! Perhaps you're recovering from a post-holiday hot dog binge, or maybe your weekend is just getting started. Either way, we hope you have something fun planned for the next few days—and that you take public transit to get there.

We have an important update for our  riders: tonight we'll be entering Phase 2 of our three-phase summer  service changes, which lasts until August 11. During this change,  trains aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs. Learn more about all three phases of these service changes, which last until September 3. 

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  ​trains aren't running between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St and are replacing ​ trains between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.
  •  trains are running in two sections: Between Pelham Bay Park and 125 St and between 125 St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall.
  • Downtown  trains are running on the  from W 4 St-Washington Sq to 2 Av and uptown  trains are running on the  from 2 Av to 5 Av/53 St.
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
  •  Franklin Av Shuttle isn't running.

Major subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday,  trains aren't running between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St in either direction and are replacing  trains between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St in both directions. This is because of structural maintenance. 

  • For service between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St, take free shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • As an alternative, consider taking crosstown buses to  stations.
  • For service between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St, take the .
  •  trains are running between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and E 180 St, and on the  to/from Eastchester-Dyre Av.
  •  trains are running between E 180 St and Bowling Green, every 20 minutes during the day and evening.

​ trains, the Bronx and Manhattan

​ trains are running in two sections from 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance. 

  •  trains are running:
    • Between Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and 125 St and on the  to/from 149 St-Grand Concourse, skipping 138 St-Grand Concourse uptown.
    • Between 125 St and Pelham Bay Park, every 12 minutes during the day and evening.
  • Transfer at 125 St to continue your trip.

Pelham Bay Park-bound  trains aren't stopping at Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of escalator replacement.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, downtown  trains are running on the  from W 4 St-Washington Sq to 2 Av and uptown  trains are running on the  from 2 Av to 5 Av/53 St.

  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the .
  • For service to/from 50 St and 23 St, take a downtown  or  local train or use nearby  stops along 6 Av.
  • For service to/from 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, 34 St-Penn Station, and 14 St, take  trains or use nearby  stops along 6 Av.
  • For service to/from Chambers St (World Trade Center) and Canal St, take  trains.
  • For service to/from Spring St, take a downtown  or  local train.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av take free B90 shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • When exiting the subway at Church Av or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take ​​​ trains.
  • For service to W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the ​.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

From 9:45 p.m. Friday through Sunday, August 11,  trains aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs because of signal modernization work.

  • Free B98 shuttle buses are running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs, making all  stops.
    • Re-enter the subway with OMNY or MetroCard at Court Sq , Metropolitan Av/Lorimer St , or Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
  •  trains are making local stops between Myrtle Av and Marcy Av.
    • Use OMNY or MetroCard for a free out-of-system transfer between Broadway and Hewes St  or Lorimer St .
  •  trains are running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av, every 8 minutes during rush hour and every 10 minutes during the day and evening.

 Franklin Av Shuttle, Brooklyn

 Franklin Av Shuttle trains aren't running from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of the St Marks Av Bridge replacement.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Franklin Av and Prospect Park, making all  Franklin Av Shuttle stops.
  • When exiting the subway at Franklin Av , Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College  (Botanic Garden), or Prospect Park , get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and  local trains aren't stopping at 86 St and 79 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown local train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes and  trains are running every 12 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, Brooklyn

New Lots Av-bound  and Utica Av/New Lots Av-bound  local trains are making express stops from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Crown Heights-Utica Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Bergen St, Grand Army Plaza, and Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum, take the .
  • For service to/from Nostrand Av and Kingston Av, take a Manhattan-bound local train.

 trains, Queens

Flushing-bound  trains are making express stops from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes.

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and  local trains are making express stops from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at Bay 50 St and 25 Av from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from these stations, take a Coney Island-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at Grand St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 12 p.m. Saturday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from this station, use nearby Graham Av or Montrose Av stations or take a Canarsie-bound train.

Canarsie-bound  trains aren't stopping at Grand St from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 12 p.m. Sunday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from this station, use nearby Montrose Av or Grand Av stations or take a Manhattan-bound train.
