Subway and rail service changes: October 4-7, 2024

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday and happy October! It's looking like a beautiful weekend, so we hope you have some plans to get outside this weekend. New Metro-North schedules go into effect on Sunday, including the return of added weekend Hudson Line service for leaf peepers and other day trippers, which runs through November 10. If you're traveling to JFK Airport this weekend, note that  trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Howard Beach-JFK Airport . For service from Manhattan and Brooklyn to JFK, take  trains to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport 

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
  •  trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport .
  • Euclid Av-bound ​ trains are running on the ​ from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 34 St-Herald Sq and on the ​ to Jay St-MetroTech.
  •  trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Church Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Hewes St and Broad St in either direction.
  •  trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St.
  •  trains are running on the ​ between Canal St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
  •  trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Kings Hwy.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running in Brooklyn from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take  trains.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the , which is running to/from New Lots Av all weekend, including overnight.
    • Transfer between  and  trains at Fulton St.
  •  trains are running between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

 trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport  from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport , take free shuttle buses, which are running along two routes:
    • Local, making all  stops between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport .
    • Express between Euclid Av and Howard Beach-JFK Airport , stopping at Aqueduct-North Conduit Av in the Euclid Av-bound direction.
  • For service to JFK Airport, take  trains to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport 
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Inwood-207 St and Euclid Av, every 12 minutes during the day and evening.
    • Between Howard Beach-JFK Airport  and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • Euclid Av-bound  trains are running on the  from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 34 St-Herald Sq and on the  to Jay St-MetroTech. 
  • Downtown ​ trains are making express stops from 34 St-Penn Station to Canal St. 
  • Downtown ​ local trains are making express stops from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St. 

This is because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from 50 St, take the .
  • For service to/from 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, 34 St-Penn Station, 14 St, and Canal St, take  trains.
  • For service to/from 23 St and Spring St, take an uptown  or  local train.
  • For service to/from Chambers St, Fulton St, and High St, take the .

 trains, Brooklyn

From 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,  trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Church Av in either direction and Coney Island-bound  trains are making express stops from Jay St-MetroTech to Kings Hwy. This is because of signal modernization work.

  • For service to/from 7 Av and Church Av, take the .
  • For local service to  stations between Bergen St and Church Av and  stations between Church Av and Kings Hwy, take a Manhattan-bound .
  • To connect between  and  trains, take  trains between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Jay St-MetroTech.
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Court Square and and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
    • Between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn, every 20 minutes.
    • Transfer at Bedford-Nostrand Avs to continue your trip.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, trains aren't running between Hewes St and Broad St in either direction and  trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St. This is because of track replacement.

  • For service between Myrtle Av and Hewes St, take the ​.
  • For service between Hewes St and Delancey St-Essex St, take free shuttle buses, which are running between these stations and stopping at Marcy Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Hewes St or Delancey St-Essex St, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, take  trains.
  • For service to Lower Manhattan, take  trains.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Hewes St.
  •  trains are running between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains are running on the  between Canal St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr in both directions all weekend because of track maintenance.

  • At Canal St,  trains are stopping at the  platform.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Kings Hwy in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service between 34 St-Herald Square and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take  trains.
    •  trains are stopping at DeKalb Av all weekend.
  • For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Kings Hwy, take free shuttle buses, which are running along two routes:
    • Local between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Kings Hwy, making all  stops.
    • Nonstop between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Kings Hwy.
  •  trains are running in two sections, every 10 minutes during the day and evening:
    • Between 96 St and 34 St-Herald Sq.
    • Between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or Kings Hwy, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
    • Overnight,  trains aren't stopping at 49 St in either direction. For service to/from this station, take the .

Other subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday, Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping from Gun Hill Rd to E 180 St and Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping from E 180 St to 3 Av-149 St. This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between Gun Hill Rd and E 180 St, take a Wakefield-bound  train.
  • For service between E 180 St and 3 Av-149 St, take a Wakefield-bound  or Dyre Av-bound  train.
  • On Sunday morning:
    • All  trains at 3 Av-149 St are stopping at the Wakefield-bound platform from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.
    •  trains aren't running between E 180 St and Bowling Green until 10 a.m.

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and  local trains are making express stops from Grand Central-42 St to 125 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 20 minutes and  trains are running every 8 minutes while  trains share a track in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of electrical improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.

 trains, Queens

Flushing-bound  trains are making express stops from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of structural improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • At Junction Blvd, all trains will board from the Manhattan-bound platform.
  • At Mets-Willets Point, all trains will board from the Flushing-bound platform.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

City Terminal Zone

Westbound trains aren't stopping at Forest Hills and Kew Gardens and westbound trains from Jamaica aren't stopping at Woodside during evening, overnight, and morning hours because of signal testing.

  • This service change is in effect:
    • From no earlier than 10 p.m. Friday to no later than 8 a.m. Saturday.
    • From no earlier than 8 p.m. Saturday to no later than 8 a.m. Sunday.
    • From no earlier than 8 p.m. Sunday to no later than 5 a.m. Monday.
    • On Friday and Saturday evenings, this service change will not begin until all concert attendees have left Forest Hills Station.
  • Westbound trains are running nonstop from Jamaica to Manhattan. Port Washington Branch trains are continuing to stop at Woodside in both directions.
  • For service to/from bypassed stations, present your LIRR ticket to a subway station agent to enter the subway at no additional cost at:
    • Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport .
    • Kew Gardens-Union Tpke .
    • Forest Hills-71 Av .
    • Woodside-61 St .

Montauk Branch

Montauk Branch trains aren't running from 12:30 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of bridge and track maintenance.

  • For service to/from stations west of Babylon, use Babylon Branch trains.
  • For service between Babylon and Montauk, take free shuttle buses. Buses are running in three zones, making all stops along a section of the branch and running nonstop to/from Babylon:
    • Bay Shore to Patchogue.
    • Bellport to Southampton.
    • Bridgehampton to Montauk.
  • Local travel between stops in different zones isn't possible.
  • Consider using the Ronkonkoma Branch to avoid busing, as trips will take up to 75 minutes longer than usual.
  • Check Schedules or TrainTime to view departure times.

Metro-North Railroad service changes

Port Jervis Line

Trains aren't running between Suffern and Port Jervis from 12:30 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday because of track work and bridge maintenance.

  • Buses connect Ramsey-Route 17 station with all stops between Sloatsburg and Port Jervis.
  • For service to Hoboken and New York from Otisville and Salisbury Mills, consider using nearby Middletown or Harriman stations instead.
    • Only local bus service, which does not connect with trains at Ramsey-Route 17, is available at Otisville and Salisbury Mills.
  • Trains are running between Hoboken and Suffern on a modified schedule with no express trains.
