MTA service changes for Thanksgiving 2020

We are strongly urging riders to adhere to advice from public health officials to avoid traveling around the holiday. If you must travel, here are details about subway, bus, and rail schedules for Thanksgiving and the days before and after.

Service changes

Subways

  • Thursday, November 26 (Thanksgiving Day): Subways operate on a sunday schedule. The Staten Island Railway runs on a Saturday schedule.
  • Friday, November 27: Subways and the Staten Island Railway operate on a regular weekday schedule.

 

Buses

Buses operate on a Sunday schedule.

Long Island Rail Road

  • Thursday, November 26 (Thanksgiving Day): Regular holiday/weekend service.
  • Wednesday and Friday, November 25 and 27: Regular weekday service.

 

Note: Alcohol will not be allowed on LIRR trains, stations, or platforms from 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, through 5 a.m. Thursday, November 26.

Metro-North Railroad

East of Hudson

  • Wednesday, November 25: Regular weekday service on Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines. There are no early getaway trains this year.
  • Thursday, November 26 (Thanksgiving Day), through Sunday, November 29: Regular weekend schedule. Off-peak fares are in effect all day, each day. There is no Hudson Rail Link service at Riverdale and Spuyten Duyvil.
  • Friday, November 27: Regular weekend schedule.

There is no service between Southeast and Wassaic from Thursday, November 25 through Sunday, November 29. There is no substitute bus service.

The north end of Grand Central Terminal is open Wednesday, November 25, from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.. It is closed November 26 and 27.

 

West of Hudson

  • Wednesday, November 25: Regular weekday service. Peak-hour fares apply.
  • Thursday, November 26 (Thanksgiving Day), Saturday and Sunday, November 28 and 29: Regular weekend schedule. Off-peak fares are in effect all day.
  • Friday, November 27: Expanded weekend schedule. Off-peak fares are in effect. Hudson Rail Link service operates on an hourly schedule.
    • On the Port Jervis Line, there will be extra trains departing Port Jervis at 6:18 a.m. and 4:05 p.m., and an extra train departing Hoboken at 4:22 p.m.

Road and subway entrance closures

Subway entrances and exits

NYPD’s transit bureau expects to close these entrances on Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on Thursday from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • 34 St—Herald Square: All entrances on 34th St between Broadway and 6th Av. The 35 St entrances on the east side of 6 Av and the entrances at 32 St and 6 Av (by the PATH) will stay open.
  • 34 St—7 Avenue: All entrances on the corner of 34 St and 7 Av.

Note: No subway stations will be bypassed.

Bridges and tunnels

We are suspending lane closures related to maintenance and construction beginning 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, through the end of the morning rush on Monday, November 30.

Street closures

Buses will re-route as necessary.

  • From 6:30 p.m. Monday until 2 p.m. Thursday, 34 St between 5 Av and 8 Av will be closed for extended periods (but not continuously).
  • From 10 p.m. Wednesday until 2 p.m. Thursday, 6 Av between 32 St and 36 St will be closed.
  • From 6 a.m. Thursday until 2 p.m. Thursday, 7 Av between 34 St and 37 St will be closed.
