New York City reopening
We’ve ramped up to weekday service, and are cleaning and disinfecting around the clock. We're doing everything we can to keep our riders and employees safe, and we need your help. Social distancing will still be a challenge. You must wear a mask.

Before you go
Know how your train or bus is operating.
We’re ramping up to regular weekday service, but plan ahead. See daily ridership here. Check service status before you leave. Use mta.info, the MYmta app or follow us on Twitter @nyctsubway, @nyctbus, @lirr, @metronorth, and @mta.
Adjust your travel times if you can.
Rush hours look different than they did before. We’re seeing the most people from 6-9 a.m. and from 3-5 p.m.
Try to travel outside of these hours. We’re also working with employers to stagger start times.
If you can stay home, do.
Consider contactless fare payment
Know your last train times.
The subway system is closed from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. so we can disinfect trains and stations. If you’re planning to travel after 11 p.m., check what time the last train is scheduled to leave your station.
During your trip
Wear a mask or face covering.
It’s required, and it’s the right thing to do to help stop the spread of the virus. Make sure it covers your nose and mouth. If you've forgotten your mask, we'll have some available at station booths. You can also purchase a mask from PPE vending machines that we're testing in 10 stations.
Give yourself space.
Move to a less crowded part of a train or platform. Wait for the next train or bus. Try using quieter bus stops and station entrances. If your trip is short, consider walking or biking if you can.
Clean your hands.
Bring hand sanitizer with you. There are yellow hand sanitizer dispensers in every station. Wash your hands when you get to your destination.
Pay attention to signs in stations.
You’ll see yellow signs and floor markings in stations. They're there to guide you through safely and show you how to keep safe social distance as much as possible.
