LIRR and Metro-North Add Early Getaway Afternoon Trains to Accommodate Holiday Travel
Five Additional Ferries to Run on Friday, Sept. 1, for Orange County and Rockland County Metro-North Customers
LIRR Montauk Sunday Return Trains Run on Monday, Sept. 4
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today reminded customers on service highlights for the Labor Day holiday weekend across New York City Transit, Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad, Access-A-Ride, and Bridges and Tunnels. The railroads are adding a few early-getaway trains to help New Yorkers get an early start on the three-day weekend.
Service details for each agency are below:
Long Island Rail Road
The LIRR will operate two early getaway trains on Friday, Sept. 1, to help customers get an early head start on the holiday weekend, one on the Ronkonkoma Branch and one on the Babylon Branch.
- A 2:55 p.m. train from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma. (Effective Sept. 5, as part of the fall schedule change, this train will run regularly Monday through Friday.)
- A 2:38 p.m. from Penn Station to Babylon, making all local Babylon stops.
On Saturday, Sept. 2, the LIRR will operate on a normal Saturday schedule. On Sunday, Sept. 3, the LIRR will operate on a Saturday schedule.
On Monday, Sept. 5, the LIRR will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule with Montauk Branch trains running on a Sunday schedule. To highlight:
- The 1:17 p.m., 4:18 p.m., 6:22 p.m., and 8:22 p.m. trains from Montauk to Jamaica, and the 3:25 p.m. train from Southampton to Jamaica, usually scheduled to run Sundays, will instead run on Monday along with other added service from the Hamptons and Montauk.
On Tuesday, Sept. 6, the 7:18 a.m. train from Montauk to Hunterspoint Ave, which usually runs on summer Mondays, is instead scheduled to run on Tuesday for those returning to New York City after the long holiday weekend.

Metro-North Railroad
Metro-North will have service adjustments on both the East and West of Hudson Lines for the Labor Day weekend.
East of Hudson
Extra trains will operate on Friday on Metro-North’s three East of Hudson lines.
Hudson Line
On the Hudson Line, Metro-North Railroad will operate three early-getaway trains on Friday, Sept. 1, to allow customers to get an early start on the holiday weekend.
- The 1:19 p.m. train from Grand Central to Poughkeepsie will stop at Harlem-125 St, operate express to Croton-Harmon and will make all stops to Poughkeepsie, except Manitou.
- The 1:51 p.m. train from Grand Central will stop at Harlem-125 St and make all stops to Croton-Harmon. Hudson Rail Link buses will meet at Spuyten Duyvil and Riverdale.
- The 2:19 p.m. train from Grand Central will stop at Harlem-125 St, operate express to Croton-Harmon, and make all stops to Poughkeepsie, except Manitou.
Because of lower ridership in the late afternoon, the 5:30 p.m. and 6:11 p.m. trains to Poughkeepsie will not operate.
- Hudson Rail Link buses will meet the 1:50 p.m. early-getaway train at Spuyten Duyvil and Riverdale for their routes throughout the neighborhoods.
- There will be two early-getaway Haverstraw-Ossining ferries, one boat meeting the 2:20 p.m. local and 2:43 p.m. express from Grand Central, and a second boat meeting the 3:21 p.m. local departures from Grand Central.
- There will be three early-getaway Newburgh-Beacon ferries, meeting the 2:43 p.m., 3:18 p.m., and 3:48 p.m. departures from Grand Central. Newburgh-Beacon ferry customers who normally ride the 5:30 p.m. Poughkeepsie express from Grand Central should ride the 5:32 p.m. Poughkeepsie express, which will connect with the ferry at Beacon.
Harlem Line
On the Harlem Line, Metro-North Railroad will operate two early-getaway trains:
- The 1:17 p.m. train from Grand Central will stop at Harlem-125 St, operate express to White Plains, and make all stops to Southeast, except Mount Pleasant.
- The 1:53 p.m. train from Grand Central will stop at Harlem-125 St and make all stops to North White Plains.
Because of lower ridership in the late afternoon, the 5:27 p.m. train to Southeast will not operate.
New Haven Line
On the New Haven Line, there will be three early-getaway trains and one service change:
- The 2:29 p.m. train from Grand Central will stop at Harlem-125 St, operate express to Westport, and select stops to New Haven.
- The 2:57 p.m. train from Grand Central will stop at Harlem-125 St, operate express to Larchmont, and make all stops to Stamford.
- The 3:28 p.m. train from Grand Central will stop at Harlem-125 St, operate express to Westport, and select stops to New Haven.
- The 5:19 p.m. train to New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, and Harrison will not operate. Instead, the 5:22 p.m. train from Grand Central, which stops at Mt. Vernon East, Pelham, and New Rochelle, will be extended to Harrison making stops at Larchmont and Mamaroneck.
Because of lower ridership in the late afternoon, the 5:42 p.m. and 6:08 p.m. New Haven express trains will not operate.
Metro-North's East of Hudson lines will operate a normal Saturday schedule on Saturday, Sept. 2, and a Sunday schedule on both Sunday, Sept. 3, and Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4. Normal weekday service resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
West of Hudson
Pascack Valley Line
On Friday, Sept. 1, customers who ride the 5:25 p.m. connecting train from New York Penn Station to Secaucus Junction to board the 5:43 p.m. Pascack Valley Line train to Spring Valley, arriving at 6:26 p.m., should note that the connecting train will depart New York Penn Station 5 minutes earlier, at 5:20 p.m. instead of at 5:25 p.m.
Port Jervis Line
Metro-North will operate a normal schedule on the Port Jervis Line on Friday, Sept. 1. On Monday, Sept. 4, an extra train departs Port Jervis at 4:05 p.m., making all stops through Suffern, then express to Secaucus Junction and Hoboken, arriving at Hoboken at 6:24 p.m., with a connecting train at Secaucus Junction to New York Penn Station arriving at 6:33 p.m.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels
Routine maintenance and construction at all MTA Bridges and Tunnels crossings ceased at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31.
Daytime scheduled maintenance requiring full lane closures will be suspended beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
Critical roadwork may be permitted during overnight hours at times when traffic permits. Maximum roadway availability will be maintained during times of peak travel.
Customers are advised to check any of the MTA’s multiple communications channels listed below before traveling.
New York City Transit
The line is suspended to accommodate switch replacement work. service will resume at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, only between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr. service between Forest Hills–71 Av and 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr remains suspended due to ongoing track replacement work in the 63rd St tunnel.
As a reminder, trains running via the line in both directions between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and 5 Av/53 St, resuming service at 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr. A special shuttle runs every 20 minutes between 21 St-Queensbridge and Lexington Av/63 St stopping at Roosevelt Island.

During the Labor Day Weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, the subway will run on a regular weekend schedule. On Labor Day, the subway will run on a Sunday schedule. That means there will be no service on the , and trains, no express or trains, and no express trains in Brooklyn.
New York City buses will operate on a regular weekend schedule on Saturday and Sunday. On Labor Day, buses will run on a Sunday schedule.
Access-A-Ride Paratransit
Access-A-Ride customers may make reservations 7 days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by calling Access-A-Ride at (877) 337-2017 or (718) 393-4999 and pressing prompt #2, online at https://new.mta.info/accessibility/paratransit, or via the MYmta app.
The Access-A-Ride Command Center operates 24/7 to assist customers on the day of trip, such as confirming a reservation or ascertaining a vehicle’s estimated time of arrival. Customers should call (877) 337-2017 or (718) 393-4999 and press prompt #5.
