Buses, Subways, LIRR and Metro-North to Run on Sunday Schedules on Memorial Day

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced service details for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Metro-North will supplement early Friday afternoon service with additional trains to help New Yorkers get an early start on the three-day weekend. For Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, New York City Transit (NYCT), LIRR, and Metro-North will run on a weekend/Sunday schedule. As a reminder, the LaGuardia Link Q70 bus, with connections to the LIRR from Woodside Station and the , , , and subway lines from the Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av station, is fare free to and from LaGuardia Airport, until further notice. Customers are advised to check any of the MTA’s multiple communications channels listed below before traveling.
Long Island Rail Road
The popular Cannonball, the 4:07 p.m. Friday train from Penn Station to Montauk, makes its seasonal debut this Friday, May 26 for the holiday weekend. This train operates express to Westhampton in 94 minutes, then stops at Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton and Montauk. The westbound Cannonball, scheduled to depart Sundays from Montauk at 6:22 p.m. will not operate this Sunday, instead it will operate on Memorial Day, Monday May 29.
On Friday May 26, the LIRR will run five extra afternoon trains to accommodate customers heading out early for the holiday weekend. There is no scheduled trackwork for this weekend. For details, check the TrainTime app before traveling or visit new.mta.info.
On Saturday, May 27, the LIRR will operate on a normal Saturday/weekend schedule.
On Sunday, May 28, the LIRR will operate on a Saturday/weekend schedule. The summer Sunday afternoon trains from Montauk at 1:17 p.m., 4:18 p.m., 6:22 p.m., and 8:22 p.m. and the 3:25 p.m. westbound train from Southampton, will not operate on Sunday, May 28. These trains will run on Monday, May 29 instead.
On Monday, May 29, LIRR trains will run on a Sunday schedule.
LIRR’s Montauk summer trains will operate every weekend beginning Memorial Day weekend through the first weekend of September.
Metro-North Railroad
On Friday, May 26, Metro-North will operate nine extra afternoon trains on its East of Hudson and West of Hudson lines to accommodate customers heading out early for the three-day weekend. Some trains between 5:25 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. will be canceled to best reallocate equipment and accommodate Memorial Day weekend travel patterns. On Saturday, May 27, Metro-North will run on a normal Saturday schedule.
On Sunday, May 28, Metro-North will operate on a normal Sunday schedule.
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, Metro-North will operate on a Sunday schedule. On the Port Jervis Line, there will be an extra train departing Port Jervis at 4:05 p.m., stopping at all stations between Port Jervis and Suffern, then express to Secaucus Junction and Hoboken.
New Canaan Branch customers are reminded that substitute bus service will replace all train service to accommodate track improvements this summer. Bus substitutions will begin Tuesday May 30. New York City Transit Subway
There are planned subway service changes from Friday, May 26 through Monday, May 29 to accommodate critical track and signal upgrades. Customers are advised to check new.mta.info or the MYmta app for real-time service updates and alternatives to help plan their trip.
Due to switch work north of West 4th St the uptown 6 Av line will be closed over the weekend. During this time uptown and trains operate via the 8th Av local track. Uptown trains return to their normal route at 125 St while trains operate via the 53rd St line to Queens and resume their normal route at Roosevelt Av. Due to extensive cleaning of the Clark St Tunnel trains will run accordingly from Saturday 12:00 a.m. through 5 a.m. Tuesday morning:
trains will operate between Dyre Avenue in the Bronx and South Ferry in Manhattan.
trains will operate between 241 St in the Bronx and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn.
trains will operate between 148 St and 14 St/7 Av only, and trains are extended to New Lots Avenue
Beginning at 4:00 a.m. Saturday, Manhattan-bound trains will run express between Mets/Willets Point and 74 St-Broadway. trains will operate with increased headways to accommodate for construction materials to be put in place. Customers are advised to allow for extra travel time. Normal service will resume at 10:00 p.m. Sunday, May 28. To learn more about this work please click here.
No trains will run north of 168th Street and no trains will run north of 145 St from 10:00 p.m. Friday until 4:45 a.m. Tuesday to accommodate signal work. Free shuttle buses will operate between 168 St and 207 St.

New York City Transit Buses
Beginning, Friday, May 26, the Q22 and Q35 will serve the Jacob Riis Park bus stop from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Some Staten Island Express buses will provide additional trips with earlier departure times from Manhattan on Friday, May 26, between 12:00 p.m. and 1:35 p.m. Please check new.mta.info for the latest service information.
On Saturday and Sunday, buses will operate on a normal schedule. Bx12S weekend service to Orchard Beach begins Saturday, May 27, and will also run on Memorial Day.
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, buses will operate a Sunday schedule on all routes.
Staten Island Railway
The Staten Island Railway will operate on a normal schedule on Friday, May 26.
On Saturday, May 27, Staten Island Railway will operate on a single track to accommodate maintenance from Grant City to Great Kills. Track 1 will serve customers traveling eastbound.
On Sunday, May 28, Staten Island Railway will operate on a Sunday schedule.
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, Staten Island Railway will operate on a Sunday schedule.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels
MTA Bridges and Tunnels will suspend daytime scheduled maintenance requiring lane closures beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30. Scheduled roadway closures for critical work may be permitted during overnight hours when traffic permits.
There will be no scheduled temporary roadway closures in any direction during the evening rush hour periods to maintain maximum roadway availability during the busy travel weekend.
