Beaches are open during the summer along the Atlantic Ocean between Ocean Parkway and West 37th Street. The boardwalk is open year-round.
You can get to Coney Island Beach and Boardwalk on the , , , and trains, or by several bus routes.
Getting to Coney Island beach and boardwalk
By subway: Take a Coney Island-bound , , , or train to Coney Island-Stillwell Av. You can also take a Coney Island-bound or train to West 8 St-NY Aquarium.
By bus: Take the B36 toward Coney Island-West 37 St, the B64 or the B68 toward Coney Island-Mermaid Av, or the B82 toward Mermaid Av-Stillwell Av.

Tips for getting to the beach

Allow plenty of time. We do critical repair work on weekends and you may need to transfer or take a different line to finish your trip. Learn more about planned service changes.

Skip the MetroCard vending machine and pay your fare with OMNY. Use your contactless fare payment device, like your smartphone or credit or debit card, to pay your fare. Learn more on the OMNY page.

Keep seats and aisles clear. Try to keep your beach gear out of walkways and doorways, too.

You can bring your bike. Bicycles are allowed on the boardwalk between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Here's how to take your bike on MTA subways, buses, and trains.
Option 1: Take the D, F, N, or Q train
1. Take a Coney Island-bound , , , or train to Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
Follow the signs to the exit at Stillwell Avenue and Surf Avenue. The beach is a short walk from there.
This is an accessible trip.
2. Take a Coney Island-bound or train to West 8 St-NY Aquarium.
Follow the signs to exit at Surf Avenue and West 8th Street. The beach is a short walk from there.
West 8 St-NY Aquarium is not an accessible station.
Option 2: Take an MTA bus
1. Take the B36 toward Coney Island-West 37 St.
Exit at any of the stops between Surf Av-W 5 St and Surf Av-West 37 St.
2. Take the B64 toward Coney Island-Mermaid Av.
Exit at either Coney Island-Stillwell Av or Coney Island-Mermaid Av.
3. Take the B68 toward Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
Exit at any of the stops between Neptune Ave-W 5 St and Stillwell Av-Neptune Av.
4. Take the B82 toward Mermaid Av-Stillwell Av.
Exit at Mermaid Av-W 17 St or Mermaid Av-Stillwell Av.
All MTA buses are accessible.
