The MTA will consider applications to sell the naming rights to a particular station as long as the new name contributes to and does not diminish our customers' ability to navigate the system easily.
Renaming will only be considered when a potential sponsor has a unique or iconic geographic, historic, or other connection to a station that would be obvious to typical MTA customers. Renaming will not be considered if there is no compelling link between the station and the potential sponsor.
Once the MTA agrees that a naming request meets our guidelines, we will use an independent consulting firm to determine the fair market value of the naming rights opportunity at the site being considered.
In addition, the sponsor will also be responsible for all costs related to the renaming, including (but not limited to):
- Station signage, including tiles
- Changes or modifications of on-board announcements
- Changes to MTA-created maps and other informational material
Requests for information and renaming should be made in writing and addressed to the MTA Director of Real Estate. No station may be renamed without the formal approval of the MTA Board.
