Subway service changes, January 3-6, 2025

There are service changes on the subway this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Happy New Year! We're looking ahead to 2025, but we're also proud of all we accomplished in 2024. And as always, we thank you, our riders, for riding our system over 1 billion times in 2024. In 2025, our mission remains the same as always: to provide you and all our customers with fast, reliable, and safe service.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  ​trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
  •  trains aren't running between Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Bowling Green.
  •  trains aren't running between 125 St and W 4 St-Washington Sq and are running in two sections.
  •  trains aren't running at all.
  •  trains aren't running between 145 St and W 4 St-Washington Sq and are running in two sections.
  •  trains aren't running between 36 St and Bay Ridge-95 St and are running on the  between 36 St and 9 Av. Late-night  trains aren't running at all.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  •  trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
    •  trains are running between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.
  •  trains aren't running between Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Bowling Green during the day and evening.
    •  trains are running between Eastchester-Dyre Av and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, making local stops, every 12 minutes.

This is because of station work.

  • For service between Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Bowling Green, take the .
  • For service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take  trains.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the , which is running to/from New Lots Av all weekend, including overnight.

 trains, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  •  trains aren't running between 125 St and W 4 St-Washington Sq in either direction.  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Inwood-207 St and 125 St, skipping 135 St in both directions, every 12 minutes during the day and evening.
    • Between Far Rockaway-Mott Av or Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd and W 4 St-Washington Sq, and on the  between W 4 St-Washington Square and 42 St-Bryant Park.
    •  trains are making local stops between 168 St and 145 St and between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Euclid Av all weekend.
  •  trains aren't running at all.
  •  trains aren't running between 145 St and W 4 St-Washington Sq in either direction.  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Norwood-205 St and 145 St.
    • Between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

This is because of switch replacement.

 trains, Brooklyn

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • During the day and evening,  trains aren't running between 36 St and Bay Ridge-95 St.
    •  trains are running between Forest Hills-71 Av and 36 St, Brooklyn and on the  between 36 St and 9 Av.
    • Free shuttle buses are running between 36 St and Bay Ridge-95 St all weekend, making all  stops.
  • During late nights:
    •  trains aren't running at all.
    • Manhattan-bound  local trains are making express stops from 59 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

This is because of structural maintenance. 

  • For service between 36 St and 59 St, take the  or free shuttle buses.
    • For local stops, take a Coney Island-bound , which is making local stops all weekend.
  • For service between 59 St and Bay Ridge-95 St, take free shuttle buses.
  • During late nights:
    • For service between Whitehall St and Jay St-MetroTech, take the .
    • For service to/from DeKalb Av, take  trains.
    • For local service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St, take the  or a Coney Island-bound .

Other subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx

Pelham Bay Park-bound  trains aren't stopping from Parkchester to Pelham Bay Park from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes in Manhattan and every 16 minutes in the Bronx. The last stop for alternate Bronx-bound trains is 3 Av-138 St. Transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound train to continue your trip.
