Subway and rail service changes: September 13-16, 2024

The are service changes on the subway and Metro-North this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! We're not quite at Spooky Season yet—the weather outside says it's still late summer—but it is Friday the 13th, and thus a moderately spooky day. (Perhaps a day to watch Jason Takes Manhattan and its subway chase scene, if that's your vibe.) Regardless of your feelings about scary things, we hope you get out and enjoy your weekend. As always, public transportation is the best way to get to where you're going.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between 3 Av-149 St and 135 St.
  •  trains aren't running at all.
  •  trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse.
  • Euclid Av-bound ​ trains are running on the ​ from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 34 St-Herald Sq and on the ​ to Jay St-MetroTech.
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Broadway Junction and Marcy Av.
  •  trains aren't running at all.
  • Queens-bound ​ and ​ local trains are running on the ​ from DeKalb Av to Canal St and late-night  trains aren't running between Whitehall St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

Major subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx and Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 3 Av-149 St and 135 St from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Wakefield-241 St and 3 Av-149 St, every 12 minutes during the day and evening.
    • Between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and 135 St and on the  to/from Harlem-148 St, skipping 145 St in both directions.
  • For service between 3 Av-149 St and 135 St, take free shuttle buses, which are running on three routes:
    • Nonstop between 3 Av-149 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse.
    • Nonstop between 149 St-Grand Concourse and 135 St.
    • Nonstop between 3 Av-149 St and 135 St.
  • At 3 Av-149 St, all  trains are boarding at the Manhattan-bound platform.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains aren't running from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between Harlem-148 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take the .
    •  trains are running on the  between Harlem-148 St and 135 St, skipping 145 St in both directions.
    • For service to 145 St, take M7 or M102 buses during the day and evening or free shuttle buses overnight.
  • For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take  trains.
    •  trains are making local stops between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College all weekend.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the , which is running to New Lots Av all weekend.
  •  42 St Shuttle trains are running all weekend, including overnight.

 trains, the Bronx

 trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse all day Saturday and Sunday because of track replacement.

  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between E 180 St and Eastchester-Dyre Av, all weekend.
    • Between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green, every 20 minutes.
  • For service between E 180 St and 3 Av-149 St, take the .
  • For service between 3 Av-149 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take free shuttle buses.
  • 149 St-bound  trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse. For service to/from this station, take the .

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • Euclid Av-bound  trains are running on the  from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 34 St-Herald Sq and on the  to Jay St-MetroTech. 
  • Downtown ​ trains are making express stops from 34 St-Penn Station to Canal St. 
  • Downtown ​ local trains are making express stops from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St. 

This is because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from 50 St, take the .
  • For service to/from 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, 34 St-Penn Station, 14 St, and Canal St, take  trains.
  • For service to/from 23 St and Spring St, take an uptown  train.
    • Uptown  trains are making local stops from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle all weekend.
  • For service to/from Chambers St, Fulton St, and High St, take the .

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av take free B90 shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • When exiting the subway at Church Av or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take ​​​ trains.
  • For service to W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the ​.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av.

 trains, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens

From 3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday,  trains aren't running between Broadway Junction and Marcy Av and  trains aren't running. This is because of track replacement.

  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Broadway Junction.
    • Between Marcy Av and Broad St.
  • For service between Broadway Junction and Marcy Av, take free shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
  • For service between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Marcy Av, take free shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
  • For service between Marcy Av and Delancey St-Essex St, take the .
  • For direct service to/from Manhattan, take  trains at Broadway Junction or the  at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
  • When exiting the subway at Broadway Junction, Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs, or Marcy Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

Queens-bound  and  local trains are running on the  from DeKalb Av to Canal St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Jay St-MetroTech and Court St, use Borough Hall .
  • For service to/from Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall, use nearby  or  stations.
  • At Canal St, uptown  and  local trains are stopping at the  platform. 

During late nights from Friday night to Monday morning,  trains aren't running between Whitehall St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and aren't stopping between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St in either direction. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Whitehall St, Court St, or Jay St-MetroTech, take a Coney Island-bound  or use nearby  stations.
  • For service to/from DeKalb Av, take  trains.
  • For service to/from Union St, 4 Av-9 St, Prospect Av, and 25 St, take  trains.
  •  trains are running between Bay Ridge-95 St and 36 St and nonstop to/from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and  local trains aren't stopping at 68 St-Hunter College from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday because of communications improvement work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a downtown local train. Or, consider nearby 59 St or 77 St stations or M101, M102, or M103 buses making stops along Lexington Av.

 trains, Queens

Flushing-bound  trains are making express stops from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of structural improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • At Junction Blvd, all trains will board from the Manhattan-bound platform.
  • At Mets-Willets Point, all trains will board from the Flushing-bound platform.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Queens

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Manhattan-bound  and  local trains aren't stopping between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and Queens Plaza and Manhattan-bound  local trains aren't stopping between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and 21 St-Queensbridge. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Forest Hills-bound , Jamaica Center-bound  local, or Jamaica-bound  local train.

Metro-North Railroad service changes

Port Jervis Line

Trains aren't running between Suffern and Port Jervis from 12:30 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday because of track work and bridge maintenance.

  • Buses connect Ramsey-Route 17 station with all stops between Sloatsburg and Port Jervis.
  • For service to Hoboken and New York from Otisville and Salisbury Mills, consider using nearby Middletown or Harriman stations instead.
    • Only local bus service, which does not connect with trains at Ramsey-Route 17, is available at Otisville and Salisbury Mills.
  • Trains are running between Hoboken and Suffern on a modified schedule with no express trains.
