Subway and rail service changes: October 25-28, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! This Sunday, the subway celebrates its 120th birthday. No matter how you celebrate, Happy Subway Day 2024! We're proud to have been moving New Yorkers around—and under—the city for 120 years, and we're ready for another 120.

If you're traveling to JFK Airport  this weekend, note that  trains aren't running to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport,  trains aren't running between Manhattan and Brooklyn, and the LIRR isn't running in Brooklyn. Take the  to Howard Beach-JFK Airport or the LIRR between Manhattan and Jamaica. The LIRR will accommodate subway riders between Manhattan and Jamaica at no additional cost.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Av and are running to Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St.
  •  trains aren't running between 168 St and 145 St.
  •  trains aren't running between Briarwood and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer.
  •  trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Church Av and are running in two sections.
  •  trains aren't running between Hewes St and Broad St.
  •  trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St.
  •  trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  Rockaway Park Shuttle trains aren't running at all.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Queens

From 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,  trains aren't running between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Av in either direction and are running to Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St.​ Rockaway Park Shuttle trains aren't running. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Av, take free shuttle buses, which are running between Far Rockaway-Mott Av and Beach 67 St and to/from Beach 90 St.
    • Transfer between shuttle buses and  trains at Beach 90 St.
  •  trains are running between Inwood-207 St and Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd/Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St.

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 168 St and 145 St in either direction all day Saturday and Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take the , which is stopping at these local stations all weekend. 
  • At 145 St,  trains are arriving and departing from the lower level  platform.
  •  trains are running between 145 St and Euclid Av.

 trains, Queens

 trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Briarwood from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take free shuttle buses, which are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke, making all  stops.
    • When exiting the subway at Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer, Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport, Briarwood, or Kew Gardens-Union Tpke, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • The LIRR will accommodate subway riders between Manhattan and Queens at no additional cost at Penn Station, Grand Central, and Jamaica.
  • For service between Manhattan and JFK Airport , take the  to/from Howard Beach-JFK Airport or the LIRR to/from Jamaica.
  •  trains are running between World Trade Center and Briarwood and on the  to/from Jamaica-179 St.

 trains, Brooklyn

From 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,  trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Church Av in either direction and Coney Island-bound  trains are making express stops from Jay St-MetroTech to Kings Hwy. This is because of signal modernization work.

  • For local service to  stations between Bergen St and Church Av and  stations between Church Av and Kings Hwy, take a Manhattan-bound .
  • To connect between  and  trains, take  trains between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Jay St-MetroTech.
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Court Sq and and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
    • Between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn, every 20 minutes.
    • Transfer at Bedford-Nostrand Avs to continue your trip.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, trains aren't running between Hewes St and Broad St in either direction and  trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St in either direction. This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between Myrtle Av and Hewes St, take the ​.
  • For service between Hewes St and Delancey St-Essex St, take free shuttle buses, which are running between these stations and stopping at Marcy Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Hewes St or Delancey St-Essex St, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, take  trains.
  • For service to Lower Manhattan, take  trains.
  • The LIRR will accommodate subway riders between Manhattan and Queens at no additional cost at Penn Station, Grand Central, and Jamaica.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Hewes St.
  •  trains are running between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take free shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
    • You can also take the B68 bus along Coney Island Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Kings Hwy, W 8 St-NY Aquarium, or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take  trains.
  •  trains are running between 96 St and Kings Hwy.

Other subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping from Wakefield-241 St to Gun Hill Rd between 4:45 a.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Monday because of station maintenance.

  • For service to/from these stations, take a Wakefield-bound train.  
    • You can also take the Bx39 bus along White Plains Rd.
  •  trains are running every 12 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and  local trains are making express stops from 125 St to Grand Central-42 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown local train. 
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 20 minutes and  trains are running every 8 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx

Woodlawn-bound  trains aren't stopping from Burnside Av to Mosholu Pkwy from 5:45 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping from Parkchester to Hunts Point Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train. 
  • At Parkchester, all  trains are stopping at the Pelham Bay Park-bound platform.

 trains, Queens

Flushing-bound  trains are making express stops from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of structural improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • At Junction Blvd, all trains are stopping at the Manhattan-bound platform.
  • At Mets-Willets Point, all trains are stopping at the Flushing-bound platform.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Brooklyn

Euclid Av-bound  and Queens-bound  local trains aren't stopping from Utica Av to Broadway Junction from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of drainage improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations stations, take a Manhattan-bound local train.

 trains, Queens

Forest Hills-bound  and Jamaica-bound  local trains aren't stopping from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to Forest Hills-71 Av from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound local train.

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  trains aren't stopping from W 4 St-Washington Square to 34 St-Herald Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

​​​ trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

Queens-bound  and  local trains are running on the  from DeKalb Av to Canal St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of drainage improvement work.

  • For service to/from Jay St-MetroTech and Court St, use Borough Hall .
  • For service between Whitehall St and City Hall, use nearby  or  stations.
  • At Canal St, uptown  and  local trains are stopping at the  platform. 

Uptown  and  local trains are making express stops from Canal St to 34 St-Herald Sq from 11:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.

During late nights from Friday night to Monday morning,  trains aren't running between Whitehall St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and aren't stopping between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St in either direction. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service between Whitehall St and Jay St-MetroTech, take a Coney Island-bound  or use nearby  stations.
  • For service to/from DeKalb Av, take  trains.
  • For service between Union St and 25 St, take  trains.
  •  trains are running between Bay Ridge-95 St and 36 St and nonstop to/from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

City Terminal Zone

Trains aren't running between Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal between 9 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Monday because of switch replacement.

  • For service between Jamaica and Brooklyn, present your LIRR ticket to a subway station agent to enter the subway at no additional cost at:
    • Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport 
    • Broadway Junction 
    • Nostrand Av 
    • Lafayette Av 
    • Fulton St 
    • Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr 

West Hempstead Branch

Trains aren't stopping at St. Albans in either direction from 10:30 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m Monday because of accessibility improvements.

  • For service to/from this station, take free shuttle buses, which are running between Jamaica and St. Albans.
