Subway and rail service changes: March 31-April 3

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Baseball season has arrived!

Yesterday, we celebrated the Yankees home opener with rides on vintage trains from the New York Transit Museum. If you're headed to the game this weekend (or holding out for the Mets home opener next week), public transit is the way to go! Check out our handy guides for traveling to Yankee Stadium and Citi Field. And if you're not into sports, public transit is still the way to go, no matter the destination.

Here's what's happening this weekend:

  •  trains are rerouted in the Bronx
  •  trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse
  •  trains aren't running between Inwood-207 St and 168 St
  •  trains are rerouted in Manhattan and Brooklyn
  •  trains are running on the   line between Manhattan and Queens
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq
  •  trains are rerouted in Brooklyn
  •  trains aren't running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Kings Hwy
  •  trains aren't running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville

Major subway service changes

 trains, Bronx

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday, Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the express track from Gun Hill Rd to 3 Av-149 St, and   trains are not running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse in either direction. This is because of track replacement. 

  • For service to/from bypassed  stations, take a Wakefield-bound  train.
  • trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Dyre Av and E 180 St
    • Between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green.
  • To continue your trip on the  , transfer to the   between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,   trains are not running between 168 St and Inwood-207 St in either direction, and   trains are not running between 145 St and 168 St in either direction. This is because of station accessibility work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running on Broadway between 168 St and Inwood-207 St, and on Fort Washington Avenue between 168 St and 190 St. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between 168 St and Far Rockaway/Ozone Park, making local stops at 155 St and 163 St-Amsterdam Av.
  •  trains are running between Euclid Av and 145 St.
  • Reminder:   trains do not run overnight.
  •  trains also make nearby stops between 168 St and 207 St.

Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the   line from Jay St-MetroTech to W 4 St-Wash Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from High St, use the nearby York St   station.
  • For service to/from Fulton St, take   trains.
  • For service to/from Chambers St, take the   train to World Trade Center, the   to Park Pl, or the   to Cortlandt St.
  • For service to/from Canal St and Spring St, take the   train.
  • Reminder:   trains don't run overnight.

 trains, Manhattan and Queens

Trains are running on the   line between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and W 4 St-Wash Sq in both directions from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of electrical work. 

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Court Sq-23 St, 21 St-Queensbridge, and Queens Plaza.
  • For service to/from Queens Plaza during the day, take the   train. Overnight, use the nearby Queensboro Plaza   station. 
  • For service to/from Court Sq-23 St, take the 
  • For service to/from Lexington Av/53 St, take the   and use the free out-of-system walking transfer at Lexington Av/63 St. 
  • For service to/from 5 Av/53 St, use nearby   stations at 57 St or 47-50 St-Rockefeller Ctr. 
  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the 
  • For service to/from 50 St, 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, 34 St-Penn Station, 23 St, or 14 St, take the   or use nearby   stations along Sixth Av.
  • Reminder: Only uptown   service is available at 23 St and 50 St.

 trains, Manhattan

Trains are not running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • M14A/D-SBS buses provide alternate service at 8 Av, 6 Av, and 14 St-Union Sq. Transfer between the M14 and  at 14 St-Union Sq.
  •  trains are running between 14 St-Union Sq and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy.

 trains, Brooklyn

From 5:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, there's no Manhattan-bound   service between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St. All Manhattan-bound   trains will run on the   between those stations. This is because of signal improvement work.

  • For Manhattan-bound service to/from these stations, take a Coney Island-bound train to 62 St/New Utrecht Av or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, then transfer.

 trains, Brooklyn

Trains are not running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Kings Hwy in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • Free shuttle buses are running along two routes:
    • Making all   stops between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Kings Hwy.
    • Non-stop between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Kings Hwy.
    • Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between 96 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, skipping DeKalb Av in both directions.
    • Between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • For direct service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take   trains.
  • For direct service to/from W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the   train.
  • For service to/from DeKalb Av, take   trains.

 trains, Staten Island

Trains are not running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville in either direction from 1 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of maintenance work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between St. George and Jefferson Av.

Other service changes

 trains, Bronx

Pelham Bay Park-bound trains are running on the express track from Parkchester to Pelham Bay Park from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Queens

Flushing-bound trains are running on the express track from 74-St Broadway to Mets-Willets Pt from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of station work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown trains are running on the express track from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.*

*Reminder: At Canal St and Spring St, only uptown   service is available.

 trains, Queens

Queens-bound trains are running on the express track from:

  • Queens Plaza 
  • 21 St-Queensbridge 

to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance. For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

Reminders:

  • After 9:45 p.m. the last stop on Queens-bound   trains is Queens Plaza, and  trains don't run in Queens at all overnight.
  •  trains are running on the   line between Manhattan and Queens. Queens Plaza  and 21 St-Queensbridge  are connected by a free shuttle bus.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

City Zone

Eastbound trains are not stopping at Woodside*, Forest Hills, and Kew Gardens from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of subway station work at 61 St-Woodside.

  • *Port Washington Branch trains are stopping at Woodside.
  • For service to/from bypassed stations, present your LIRR ticket to the station agent at the following subway stations for entry at no additional cost:
    • 34 St-Penn Station 
    • Grand Central-42 St 
    • Forest Hills-71 Av 
    • Kew Gardens-Union Tpke

Hempstead Branch

Trains are not running between Floral Park and Hempstead in either direction from 8:15 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Monday while we replace the Cherry Valley Av bridge in Garden City.

  • Buses are running between Bellerose and Hempstead, making stops at Stewart Manor, Nassau Boulevard, and Garden City.
  • Buses will not stop at Country Life Press. Use Garden City instead.
  • Trains are running between Grand Central and Floral Park.
  • For direct train service, consider using New Hyde Park, Merillon Avenue, or Mineola stations.
  • The last trains to run on Friday night are the 7:20 p.m. from Penn Station and the 7:53 p.m. from Hempstead.
  • Service resumes on Monday Morning with the 2:55 a.m. from Penn Station and the 3:55 a.m. from Hempstead.
  • Note: Bellerose is not an accessible station. For an accessible route, take a train to/from Floral Park for van service to/from Hempstead.

Metro-North Railroad service changes

Port Jervis Line

Trains are not running between Port Jervis and Suffern in either direction from 12:45 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday because of bridge maintenance work.

  • Buses are running between Ramsey-Route 17 and Sloatsburg, and to/from all stations between there and Port Jervis.
  • Trains are running between Hoboken and Suffern on a modified schedule, with express trains canceled.
  • Riders traveling from Otisville and Salisbury Mills to Hoboken and New York should consider using the Middletown or Harriman stations instead, as only local bus service will be available, which does not connect with the train at Ramsey-Route 17.
  • Bus service begins with the 12:39 a.m. from Hoboken early Saturday morning and train service resumes with the 12:39 a.m. from Hoboken early Monday morning.
