Subway and rail service changes: April 21-24

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Looking for some eco-friendly fun on Saturday? Celebrate Car-Free Earth Day with NYC DOT, with open streets located across all five boroughs. This year, the event will feature seven signature locations and 23 community-produced locations, where you'll find performances, fitness trainings, giveaways, and educational activities.

Here's what else is happening this weekend:

  •  trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and 34 St-Hudson Yards
  •  trains aren't running between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av
  •  trains are rerouted in Manhattan and Brooklyn
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St
  •  trains aren't running between 57 St-7 Av and Prospect Park
  • trains aren't running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan and Queens

Trains are not running between Queensboro Plaza and 34 St-Hudson Yards in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running in two sections:
    • Q93: Between Queensboro Plaza and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av.
    • Q92: Overnight only between 34 St-Hudson Yards and Times Sq-42 St. During the day, take the M34-SBS bus.
    • Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between Queensboro Plaza and Flushing-Main St.
  • For service between Manhattan and Queens, take   trains.
  • Special weekend   service is running every 20 minutes between 34 St-Herald Sq and Astoria-Ditmars Blvd from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
  • 42 St Shuttle   trains will run overnight.

Queensboro Plaza-bound trains are running on the express track from 74 St-Broadway to Queensboro Plaza from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Flushing-bound train.

 trains, Queens

 trains are not running between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av in either direction from 5:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of communications improvement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running along two routes, making stops along the   and   lines:
    • Nonstop between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av. 
    • Between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St on the  .
    • Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • Rockaway Park Shuttle   trains are not stopping at Broad Channel. Instead, trains are running between Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St and Far Rockaway-Mott Av on the  , every 20 minutes.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

 trains are not running between 168 St and 145 St in either direction from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service to/from 163 St-Amsterdam Av and 155 St, take the   train, which will make local stops all weekend.
  • trains are running between 145 St and Euclid Av.

From, 9:45 p.m. Friday to 11:15 p.m. Sunday, 145 St-bound  trains are running on the   line from Jay St-MetroTech to 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr, and then via the   line to 59 St-Columbus Circle. This is because of track maintenance. 

  • For service to/from High St, Fulton St, Canal St, 14 St, 34 St-Penn Station, and 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, take the   train.
  • For service to/from Spring St and 23 St, take a downtown train, or use nearby   train stations.
  • For service to/from 50 St, take the   train.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

Trains are not running between Crescent St and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer in either direction from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • Free J90 shuttle buses are running between Crescent St and 121 St, connecting to Jamaica-Van Wyck  . Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to/from Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer, take the  .
  • For direct service to JFK Airport, transfer to a Howard Beach-bound   train at Broadway Junction for service to Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
  •  trains are running between Broad St and Crescent St.

 trains, Manhattan and Brookyln

Trains are not running between 57 St-7 Av and Prospect Park in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement work.

  •  trains are running in two sections: 
    • Between 96 St and 57 St-7 Av
    • Between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Av
  • Free Q90 shuttle buses are running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park, stopping at 7 Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to/from stations between 57 St-7 Av and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take   trains.

 trains, Staten Island

Trains are not running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville in either direction from 1 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of maintenance work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between St. George and Jefferson Av.

Other service changes

 trains, Bronx

Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the express track from Woodlawn to Kingsbridge Rd from 5:45 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Woodlawn-bound train.

Woodlawn-bound   trains are not stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse from 10:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • During the day, take the   train. Overnight, transfer to/from downtown  train service.

 trains, Bronx

Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the express track from Pelham Bay Park to Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, uptown  trains are running on the express track from Canal St to:

  • 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal 
  • 59 St-Columbus Circle 

This is because of structural maintenance. For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

Reminders:

  • Board uptown   trains on the express platform at 34 St-Penn Station.
  • Uptown   trains are running on the   and   lines between Jay St-MetroTech and 59 St-Columbus Circle.

 trains, Queens

From 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday, Queens-bound trains are running on the express track from:

  • Queens Plaza 
  • 21 St-Queensbridge 

to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av. This is because of structural maintenance. For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

Reminders:

  • After 9:45 p.m. the last stop on Queens-bound   trains is Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av, and   trains don't run in Queens at all overnight.

 trains, Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Coney Island-bound trains are bypassing DeKalb Av and running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St. This is because of electrical work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take  trains.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Downtown   trains are running on the express track from 34 St-Herald Sq to W 4 St-Wash Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

Brooklyn-bound   trains are running on the express track from Smith-9 Sts to Church Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Queens-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Trains are running on the   line between Canal St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr in both directions from 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  •  trains will make all   stops between Canal St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
  • Board   trains on the   platform at Canal St.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

All Branches

Trains are rerouted and running on a special schedule from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of bridge replacement work related to the widening of the Van Wyck Expressway.
