Subway and rail service changes: April 14-17

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Taking a late-night trip on the  tonight? From approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday, real-time arrival info may be unavailable on countdown clocks and apps while we perform a software update. If you need help, text us on WhatsApp or in iMessage.

And if you're riding the LIRR on Saturday or Sunday, you'll want to know about service changes affecting most branches while a rail bridge west of Jamaica is replaced for the widening of the Van Wyck Expressway.

Here's the rundown on the most impactful changes (which you can also view as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't stopping at South Ferry
  •  trains aren't running between Inwood-207 St and 168 St
  •  trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Coney Island-Stillwell Av
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq
  •  trains are rerouted in Brooklyn
  •  trains aren't running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park, and are rerouted in Brooklyn
  •  trains are rerouted between Manhattan and Queens
  •  trains aren't running at all
  • trains aren't running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Trains are not stopping at South Ferry from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from South Ferry, take  trains to/from Whitehall St-South Ferry, or take   trains to/from Bowling Green.
    • Transfer between   trains and   trains at Times Sq-42 St.
    • Transfer between   trains and   trains by taking   trains between Chambers St and Fulton St.
  • M55 bus service is also available between South Ferry, Rector St, and Chambers St.
  •  trains are running between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and Rector St.

 trains, Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,   trains are not running between 168 St and Inwood-207 St in either direction, and  trains are not running between 145 St and 168 St. This is because of station improvement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running on Broadway between 168 St and Inwood-207 St, and on Fort Washington Avenue between 168 St and 190 St. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between 168 St and Far Rockaway/Ozone Park, making local stops at 163 St-Amsterdam Av and 155 St.
  •  trains are running between 145 St and Euclid Av.
  •  trains also make nearby stops between 168 St and 207 St.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Trains are not running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Coney Island-Stillwell Av from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement work.

  •  trains are running between Norwood-205 St and 34 St-Herald Sq.
  • Free shuttle buses are running between W 4 St-Wash Sq and Grand St. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to from stations between 34 St-Herald Sq and Broadway-Lafayette St, take the   train.
  • For service to from stations between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take the   train.   trains make all   stops between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • Transfer between   trains at 34 St-Herald Sq.

 trains, Manhattan

Trains are not running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • M14A/D-SBS and free L92 shuttle buses provide alternate service at 8 Av, 6 Av, and 14 St-Union Sq. Transfer between the M14/L92 and   at 14 St-Union Sq.
  •  trains are running between 14 St-Union Sq and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy.

 trains, Brooklyn

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, there's no Coney Island-bound   service between 36 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. All Coney Island-bound   trains will run on the   between those stations. This is because of track replacement work.

  • For Coney Island-bound service to/from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound train to 62 St/New Utrecht Av or 36 St, then transfer.

 trains, Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,   trains aren't running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park in either direction, and trains to/from Manhattan are rerouted in Brooklyn.

  • trains are running in two sections:
    • Between 96 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, bypassing DeKalb Av, then via the   line to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Board   trains on the   platform at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
    • Shuttle trains are running between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Av on the  line. Board   trains on the Manhattan-bound platform at Prospect Park.
  • Free Q90 shuttle buses are running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park, stopping at 7 Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to/from DeKalb Av, take   trains.

 trains, Manhattan and Queens

From 6:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday, Queens-bound   trains are running on the   line from 57 St-7 Av to Lexington Av/63 St, and then via the   line to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av. This is because of track maintenance and station improvement work.

  • For service to/from 5 Av/59 St and Lexington Av/59 St, take the   train.
  • For service to/from Queens Plaza, take the   train.
  • For service to/from local stations between Queens Plaza and Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av, take a Manhattan-bound   train.
  • After 9:45 p.m. each night, the last stop on Queens-bound   trains is Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av. Take   trains.
  • Reminder:   trains don't run overnight in Queens.

 trains, Queens

Rockaway Park Shuttle  trains are not running at all from 5:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of electrical work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Beach 67 St   and Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to/from Broad Channel, take the   train.

 trains, Staten Island

Trains are not running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville in either direction from 1 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of maintenance work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between St. George and Jefferson Av.

Other service changes

 trains, Manhattan and Bronx

Uptown  trains are running on the express track from Times Sq-42 St to 96 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.
  • Overnight, when   trains normally run local, they'll run express instead.

Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the express track from Gun Hill Rd to E 180 St from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Wakefield-bound train, or take the Bx39 bus.

 trains, Manhattan and the Bronx

Woodlawn-bound   trains are not stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse from 10:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • During the day, take the   train. Overnight, transfer to/from downtown  train service.

Uptown   trains are running on the express track from Grand Central-42 St to 125 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.
  •  trains are running every 20 minutes so all routes can share the express track.
  • Overnight, when   trains normally run local, they'll run express instead.
  • Reminder: Board uptown   trains on the lower level express platform at 59 St and 86 St.

Pelham Bay Park-bound  trains are running on the express track from Parkchester to Pelham Bay Park from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Queens

Flushing-bound trains are running on the express track from Queensboro Plaza to 74 St-Broadway from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a 34 St-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, downtown   trains are running on the express track from:

  • 59 St-Columbus Circle 
  • 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal 

to Canal St. This is because of structural maintenance. For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

Reminder: Board downtown   trains on the express platform at 34 St-Penn Station.

 trains, Queens

From 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday, Queens-bound trains are running on the express track from:

  • Queens Plaza 
  • 21 St-Queensbridge 

to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av. This is because of structural maintenance. For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

Reminders:

  • Queens-bound   trains are running on the   line between Manhattan and Queens.
  • After 9:45 p.m. the last stop on Queens-bound   trains is Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av, and   trains don't run in Queens at all overnight.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Trains are running on the   line between Canal St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr in both directions from 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  •  trains will make all   stops between Canal St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
  • Board   trains on the   platform at Canal St.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

All Branches

Trains are rerouted and running on a special schedule from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of bridge replacement work related to the widening of the Van Wyck Expressway.

Metro-North Railroad service changes

Waterbury Line

Buses replace trains between Waterbury and Bridgeport from 6:30 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Monday because of track switch replacement work near Stratford.

  • Buses will make all Waterbury Line stops between Waterbury and Bridgeport. Transfer between trains and buses at Bridgeport. See the full bus schedule.
  • Inbound buses will leave 25-30 minutes earlier than normal train times.
  • Both local and express (nonstop to and from Waterbury) buses will be available for each train.
  • Normal train service resumes on Tuesday morning with the 4:47 a.m. train from Waterbury.
