LIRR weekday service changes starting November 11, 2024

We're making changes to our schedules.
Updated October 28, 2024 11:00 a.m.

New weekday schedules start on all LIRR branches on Monday, November 11, 2024.

Amtrak is about to begin the East River Tunnel Rehabilitation Project, which will require closing one of four tubes into Penn Station. Thanks to the opening of Grand Central Madison, the impact on LIRR service is expected to be minimal.

During the height of the morning rush hour, we will have to divert two trains from Penn Station to Grand Central. There is no change in overall service levels to or from Manhattan.

In addition, some Penn Station arrival and departure times have been adjusted a few minutes earlier or later. There will also be minor midday and late-evening time changes on various branches because of other minor infrastructure projects throughout our system.

All weekday riders should use the new schedules or our TrainTime app to check for changes to their trip. There are no changes to weekend schedules.

Long Beach Branch

  • The 7:48 a.m. train from Island Park to Atlantic Terminal will depart at 7:21 a.m. and arrive at 8:12 a.m.
  • The 7:54 a.m. train from Long Beach will depart at 7:41 a.m., no longer stop at Kew Gardens, and run to Grand Central, arriving at 8:31 a.m.
  • The 8:02 a.m. train from Long Beach to Penn Station will no longer stop at Rosedale, Laurelton, or Locust Manor, and will add a stop at Kew Gardens.
  • The 5:54 p.m. train from Grand Central will no longer stop at Forest Hills.

Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma Branches

  • The 4:26 p.m. train from Port Jefferson to Jamaica will now leave at 4:49 p.m. This improves reliability and also provides a later westbound option for Stony Brook students.
  • The 4:57 p.m. train from Ronkonkoma to Penn Station will now leave at 4:47 p.m.
  • The 5:22 p.m. train from Huntington to Penn Station will now leave at 5:10 p.m.

Greenport service

Midday train service between Ronkonkoma and Riverhead will resume on November 11. Buses will replace all trains between Riverhead and Greenport from November 11-24 as rail and switch replacement work moves eastward.

Full train service between Ronkonkoma and Greenport will resume on November 25.

West Hempstead Branch

The 7:53 a.m. train from West Hempstead will run to Grand Central.

Hunterspoint Avenue service

The 8:19 a.m. train from Jamaica to Hunterspoint Avenue will no longer run. Alternate trains leave Jamaica at 8:04 a.m. and 8:31 a.m.
