To ensure your organization is approved for the exemption by January 5, 2025, please submit your initial application by December 29, 2024. After you submit, make sure a member of your team is available to answer questions.
To qualify for SGOVEP, vehicles must be:
- Owned or controlled by a federal, state, regional, or local government organization
- Specifically designed and configured to perform a particular type of public function, other than general transportation of people or general deliveries. This includes garbage trucks, street-cleaning trucks, snow plows, pavers, bucket trucks, etc.
Eligibility and credentials
Applicants must provide:
- Proof that each vehicle is registered to or owned by a government entity
- A detailed description of the specialized function performed by each vehicle on the application, and supporting documentation
Enrollment in SGOVEP requires a valid E-ZPass NY Business account. Organizations without an E-ZPass Business account must sign up for one before applying for SGOVEP. Learn more about signing up for E-ZPass NY.
How to apply
The SGOVEP application is available on the E-ZPass NY website. Follow these steps:
- Download a PDF of the application package from the E-ZPass site.
- Fill out the applicable sections of the application, and upload it on the E-ZPass site.
- Upload the required documentation.
Applicants will receive a formal decision notice once their application is processed. If the application is denied, the decision notice will provide information on how to appeal.
