About the project
Rehabilitating the Astoria line is complete. From 2017 to 2021, we rebuilt, replaced, and repaired stations and tracks along the Astoria line in northwest Queens. Astoria Ditmars Blvd, Astoria Blvd, Broadway, 39 Av-Dutch Kills, 36 Av, and 30 Av stations received renovations. Nearly 8,000 feet of track was replaced along the line, between Queensboro and 39 Av, Ditmas Blvd and Astoria Blvd, and 36 Av and 30 Av.
This crucial work created a better Astoria line. Track replacement resulted in improved reliability of the track and signal equipment along the line. Gaps between the platform and the train were reduced by track replacement to become ADA compliant. Elevators were installed at Astoria Blvd, making the station fully accessible. At Broadway, 39 Av-Dutch Kills, 36 Av and 30 Av, we restored and modernized four 102-year-old stations, which were in desperate need of structural repairs.
Project benefits
- Replaced tracks and switches are more reliable.
- Restored and modernized stations provide a cleaner, safer, and more accessible experience for customers.
