The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (“MTA”), on behalf of itself and its subsidiaries, will hold a public hearing pursuant to Article 2 of the New York State Eminent Domain Procedure Law (“EDPL”) on the proposed acquisition of permanent & temporary property interests in properties in the Borough of Queens for the Jamaica Bus Depot Reconstruction Project (“Project”). The hearing will review the public uses, benefits, purposes, and location of the Project, the impact the Project may have on the environment and residents of the area and will give the public an opportunity to comment on the Project and the proposed property acquisition.
Description of the project
The Jamaica Bus Depot (“JBD”) has served as a critical component of the Queens Division bus depot network and has remained in continuous operation since its construction in 1939. The Project, when complete, will result in an expanded and reconstructed JBD that could manage the operations, maintenance & on-site storage for up to 272 buses, including all-electric buses, to serve the projected bus assignments and allow additional capacity for future service demand. This public hearing includes property interests needed for the Project.
