About the route

The proposed B16 Local runs between Fort Hamilton and East Flatbush.

The current length of the B16 route is 7.4 miles. The proposed B16 Local route would be 8.7 miles.

In the existing route, the average stop spacing is 676 feet. Under the proposed route, that would increase to 980 feet. 

In the existing route, there are 1.9 turns per mile. Under the proposed route, that would decrease to 1.7 turns per mile.

The route would include connections to the B1, B4, B8, B9, B11, B12, B35, B37, B40, B41-SBS, B44-SBS, B46-SBS, B49, B55, B63, B64, B67, B68, B70, B81, S53, S79-SBS, S93, and the  trains.

Review the B16 route summary

The proposed B16 would be extended on its eastern end to provide additional service on Clarkson Av to Kings County Hospital Center and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.

This extension would also provide new connections to the Winthrop Av  station and very frequent bus routes such as B44 SBS and B46 SBS. The proposed B48 would serve Ocean Av.

In Kensington, the proposed B16 would be rerouted via Church Av and McDonald Av, reducing a turn and thereby reducing delays, and providing a new connection to the future accessible Church Av  station. Existing B16 service on Dahill Rd, 12 Av, and 36/37 Sts would be discontinued.

In Borough Park, the proposed B16 would be rerouted to travel via 60 St instead of narrow 56/57 Sts, providing a new accessible connection to the 62 St-New Utrecht Av  station. Existing B16 service on 56/57 Sts would be discontinued.

As a Local route, stops would be spaced slightly farther apart than existing to speed up buses and improve reliability. Midday and Early Evening weekday frequencies would be increased. Service span would be slightly increased.
