While the rest of the Bronx Redesign Local Plan was implemented in Summer 2022, proposed changes to the Bx6 SBS route alignment, Bx6 Local schedule, and Bx5 schedule will be implemented later. This is to avoid the cost of construction associated with installing on-street fare machines that would be needed for a short amount of time. Therefore, bus customers should plan to see the proposed changes implemented when MetroCards are retired and OMNY is fully deployed.

Review the Bx6 Route Summary

Route

The Bx6 routing will not change. It serves a key east-west corridor that connects to several important destinations and transfer points.

Key connecting routes include: Bx5Bx6 Select Bus ServiceBx13Bx15, and Bx19.

Note: Though the Bx6 routing will not change, the Bx6 Select Bus Service routing will be changing.

Stops

Thirteen percent (8 of 64) of the Bx6 stops will be removed, improving the average distance between stops from 958 feet to 1,097 feet. By removing these stops, we’ll improve reliability along the route.

See the route profile with full stop list.

Schedule

The Bx6 weekday schedule will be improved to 8 minutes or better all day at Hunts Point. To make up for the loss of the Bx6 SBS on Hunts Point Avenue, service on the Bx6 will increase from the Hunts Point Av Station to Hunts Point Market. Frequencies along the rest of the route will remain the same as they are today. Where the Bx6 and Bx6 SBS overlap, the combined weekday frequency will also remain the same. Due to the Bx6 SBS routing change, ridership will be closely monitored, and schedules will be adjusted accordingly.
