Extra Trains Will Be Ready to Handle the Sold-Out Crowds
NYPD and MTAPD Will Have Enhanced Presence on Trains, Platforms and at Mets-Willets Point Station
With the Yankees and Mets both in first place in their respective divisions, huge crowds of fans will flock to Citi Field on Tuesday, July 26 and Wednesday, July 27 at 7:10 p.m. for Round 1 of the 2022 Subway Series, and public transit is the fastest, safest and greenest way to get there.
New York City Transit will stage extra subway trains nearby that can be dispatched to the station quickly to handle the overflow crowd.
The New York City Police Department and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department will add extra officers to stations along the 7 line and at Mets-Willets Point Station before and after the game.
Additional NYPD and MTAPD officers will also be onboard trains.
New Yorkers can take advantage of the MTA’s newest fare options that make travel affordable, such as fare capping with MTA’s convenient new tap-and-go fare payment system, OMNY, as well as the Long Island Rail Road’s discounted 20-trip peak ticket.
“You won’t get Mets and Yankees fans to agree on much, but one thing they can agree on is that public transit offers the most convenient and affordable options to get to what should be a jam-packed Citi Field for the Subway Series,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey. “The 7 train, Q48 bus and Access-A-Ride all stop right at Citi Field’s front door.”
“It’s an exciting time to be a New York baseball fan and public transit is right beside the Mets and Yankees at the top of the standings,” said Long Island Rail Road Interim President and Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi. “Taking the Long Island Rail Road makes it easy for baseball fans to avoid the traffic, help the environment and relax on their way to and from Citi Field.”
Here are details of game-day service to Citi Field:
New York City Subway and Buses
The Mets-Willets Point station is right in front of Citi Field on Roosevelt Avenue near 126th Street. Fans can always take either the local or the express to reach Mets-Willets Point.
The Q48 bus stops at 126th Street and Roosevelt Avenue, right in front of Citi Field. Customers can use the real-time bus ridership tracking feature on the MYmta app before boarding.
Customers can use the MTA’s contactless fare payment system OMNY to get to the games. Every tap to and from Citi Field is another step closer to the “Lucky 13” feature where, starting with the 13th ride of each week, every additional ride on subways or buses is free for the rest of that week.
Long Island Rail Road
The LIRR provides direct service to the Mets-Willets Point station all season long via the Port Washington Branch, just a 19-minute ride from Penn Station. Citi Field is just 17 minutes from Great Neck and 27 minutes from Port Washington. Fans traveling from Long Island on other branches can reach Citi Field by changing at Woodside, just a five-minute ride from the stadium.
Access-A-Ride
Access-A-Ride paratransit has a designated stop at Citi Field located at 41 Seaver Way (126th St and 37th Ave), south of the BullPen Gate in the Passenger Loading Zone (second cut out) directly in front of the AMWAY awning. Customers have ample shelter and a clear sight line of 126th street from BullPen Gate.

Metro-North Railroad
Mets fans from the Bronx, the northern suburbs or Connecticut can catch any Metro-North train to Grand Central and transfer to the 7 subway to Citi Field.
