Statement from MTA Chief, Policy and External Relations John J. McCarthy on NYPD’s re-apprehension of Alexander Wright, the suspect charged with assaulting MTA station cleaner Anthony Nelson in August 2022. Wright had failed to show up in court for more than two months this fall following release on $500 bail in September 2024.

“The guy was out there, could have been riding transit and putting more people at risk including our employees, while the wait continues for justice. We are grateful for the NYPD warrant squad and Bronx prosecutors for doing their jobs, and now it’s time to finally deliver for Anthony Nelson—and all New Yorkers—whose nightmare would be to ever run into this menace again.”
