MTA Bridges and Tunnels Encourages All Motorists to Mount E-ZPass Tags as Instructed to Ensure Proper Reading

Motorists with E-ZPass Can Save Up to 40% Off of Tolls by Mail Rates

Tolls NY App Is Easiest Way to Order Tags, Get Mounting Strips, and Manage Account

The MTA is reminding motorists that on Sunday, April 11, tolls on MTA Bridges and Tunnels’ nine NYC tolled crossings are increasing along with the creation of a new mid-tier toll rate for those with E-ZPass tags issued through the New York Service Center who mount their E-ZPass tags improperly. The toll increase and the new toll tier were adopted by the MTA Board on Feb. 18.

The MTA reminds motorists that the best way to get lowest toll rates – up to 40% off of the Tolls by Mail rate – is to sign up for an E-ZPass account with the New York Service Center (NYSC) at e-zpassny.com and mount the tag correctly as shown in instructions that come with the tag and are posted online. Additional tags and adhesive mounting strips can be requested through the Tolls NY mobile app, which also allows customers to easily see their account balance, make payments, and view transaction history. The Tolls NY app is available for free through the Apple app store and Google Play.

The mid-tier toll rate, which is lower than the rate for those who get toll bills by mail, is for those who hold an NYSC E-ZPass account tag but are not mounting it properly. Motorists with NYSC E-ZPass accounts who properly mount their tags will continue to get the lowest rate. NYSC E-ZPass customers who are charged the mid-tier rate get an even better rate by properly mounting their tag. For most cars this means affixing it to the middle of the windshield, just below the rear-view mirror mount.

The new toll rates to take effect Sunday, April 11, are below:

Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, Hugh L Carey Tunnel, Queens Midtown Tunnel, RFK Bridge, Throgs Neck Bridge, and Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge:

  • $6.55 for properly mounted NYSC E-ZPass tag
  • $8.36 for improperly mounted NYSC E-ZPass tag
  • $10.17 for Tolls By Mail or non-NYSC tag holders

Henry Hudson Bridge:

  • $3.00 for properly mounted NYSC E-ZPass tag
  • $4.62 for improperly mounted NYSC E-ZPass tag
  • $7.50 for Tolls By Mail or non-NYSC Tag Holders

Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge, Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge:

  • $2.45 for properly mounted NYSC E-ZPass tag
  • $3.77 for improperly mounted NYSC E-ZPass tag
  • $5.09 for Tolls By Mail or non-NYSC Tag Holders

Staten Island residents using a registered E-ZPass will continue to pay a post-rebate effective toll rate of $2.75 on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

More details, including toll rates for trucks, motorcycles and buses, and instructions for proper E-ZPass tag mounting, are posted online at MTA.info.
