Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) bus operator Luis Jimenez helped celebrate the NY Liberty’s WNBA Championship ticker-tape parade through the Canyon of Heroes Thursday morning.
Jimenez, who is a member of the team’s “Timeless Torches” dance troupe was also praised for his quick-thinking actions when he saved a five-year-old girl who walked away from school last month in Harlem after her pet fish died, and was reunited with her this week and presented her with a new goldfish.
The Liberty won their first-ever title on Sunday with a 67-62 win over the Minnesota Lynx. It’s the first time a professional New York basketball team has won a championship since the New York Knicks in 1973.
