A Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) bus weighing 33,440 pounds was successfully pulled 16 feet by 58-year-old Canadian Strongman Kevin Fast on national television on Monday, Sept. 20, an achievement that broke a Guinness World Records title. The feat was aired live on nationally-syndicated talk show “Live with Kelly and Ryan” outside their studios on W. 67th St. between Columbus Av. and Central Park West during Monday’s broadcast. Fast pulled the 40-foot long all-electric MTA New York City Transit Bus along W. 67th St. by sitting down on the pavement and using his upper body to pull the bus towards him. The old record for the pull achieved by Fast in Sept. 2017 was 24,427 pounds. Guinness World Records Judge Michael Empric oversaw the pull and made the final determination that the record was broken.

"We are happy to partner with 'Live with Kelly and Ryan' and Kevin Fast by providing one of our all-electric buses for his successful record-breaking attempt,” said New York City Transit Interim President Craig Cipriano. “Our heartfelt congratulations go out to him on his daring achievement. This new world record shines a spotlight on our efforts to be the greenest and most environmentally-conscious transit system in the greatest city in the world.”

“We are excited to be part of a historic Guinness World Records attempt to pull the heaviest vehicle by the upper body and congratulate Kevin Fast on his exciting achievement,” said Acting President at the MTA Bus Company and Senior Vice President at New York City Transit's Department of Buses Frank Annicaro. “Having one of our all-electric, clean energy buses pulled on a national stage gives us an exciting opportunity to showcase the MTA’s continued commitment to deliver a modern, sustainable, and reliable bus system that New Yorkers deserve, while protecting our environment."

In total, MTA Buses run 5,872 buses on 327 routes, including 73 express routes and 20 Select Bus Service routes — representing the largest municipal fleet in the nation.

Fast, a native of Cobourg, Canada, has broken more than 30 world records including pulling a 208-ton airplane, a 63-ton truck and a 40-ton house. In addition to being a strongman, he has served his community as a pastor for 29 years and competes professionally in highland style games across North America. Fast donates any winnings or proceeds raised from his feats to local charities.
