The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced it will host the fourth Open House in an ongoing series of Open Houses on the 2025–2029 Capital Plan. It will be held at the Bronx Library Center from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16. Members of the public are encouraged to attend these Open Houses to learn more about the Capital Plan and speak with MTA officials.

The Open Houses feature an exhibition of informational posters, pamphlets, and videos explaining key elements of the Capital Plan, and agency representatives are on hand to answer questions. Information is also available on career opportunities at the MTA, business opportunities for Minority-, Women-, Disadvantaged-, and Service-Disabled Veteran-owned firms, and fare discount programs.

“Our next Capital Plan will provide the Bronx with ADA improvements, new escalators and elevators, state of good repair work throughout the borough and more,” said MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer. “By investing in the Bronx and delivering the work better, faster, and cheaper than ever before, we'll ensure the entire region can rely on great public transit for generations to come."

“This Capital Plan is a home run for transit riders in the Bronx,” said New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow. “By upgrading facilities like the 240 St Yard, deploying hundreds of additional electric buses, and investing in state-of-good-repair projects like improvements to the Dyre and Pelham lines, this plan will ensure that we can deliver high quality service to the Bronx for generations to come.”

“State of good repair investments are essential to ensuring safe and reliable service for years to come for Metro-North customers in the Bronx and throughout the region,” said Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi. “Metro-North continues to see strong ridership growth within the Bronx, and City Ticket has attracted even more riders to our system.  I welcome the opportunity to talk about our planned investments in the Bronx, including upcoming ADA work at Botanical Garden, Woodlawn and Williams Bridge, and the construction of new stations as part of the Penn Access project.”

The MTA has previously co-hosted Open Houses in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. The MTA co-hosted an Open House with Representative Jerry Nadler, State Senator Liz Krueger, and Assembly Member Alex Bores in Manhattan at Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall on Oct.21. State Senator Leroy Comrie, Assembly Member Alicia Hyndman, City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, City Council Majority Whip Selvena Brooks-Powers, and City Council Member Nantasha Williams co-hosted and Open House in Jamaica at the Queens Public Library on Nov. 13. And Representative Dan Goldman, State Senator Andrew Gounardes, Assembly Member Jo Anne Simon, City Council Member Lincoln Restler and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso at Brooklyn Borough Hall on Nov. 21.

The Capital Plan is a historic $68.4 billion investment in the region’s subways, buses, railroads, bridges, and tunnels over the next five years that ensures New Yorkers continue to have access to reliable, accessible, and sustainable transit. It includes targeted investments to rebuild, improve, and expand the MTA system. It will enable the MTA to continue to provide frequent and reliable service by putting the system on a path to a state of good repair, including investments in railcars, power, and signals. The plan will also improve the customer experience, with investments in accessibility, stations, and modern fare gates, and take action on climate change, including resiliency and sustainability initiatives. The 2025-2029 Capital Plan builds on the most detailed system-wide evaluation the MTA has ever undertaken, the Twenty-Year Needs Assessment.
