and Line Service Changes Accommodate Modernization of Signals

Service Changes on the  Lines Support Critical Switch Replacement Work

and Train Service Changes Accommodate Track Replacement Work

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today outlined a series of subway service changes for Memorial Day weekend along the  and  lines, many of which are part of the Authority’s ongoing modernization efforts including signal upgrades, track rehabilitation, and switch replacement. Some of these service changes have been in place for the past few weekends and are expected to recur the following weekends.

Work on the lines and the   line support the 8 Av Line Signal Modernization and Culver Line Signal Modernization projects, respectively, which involves replacing old signals with Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC). The installation of CBTC will improve the reliability and efficiency of train service by enabling the MTA to run trains closer together at higher speeds without compromising safety. For more information on the benefits of CBTC, visit https://new.mta.info/projects/cbtc .

Service changes along the  line supports the Culver Line Signal Modernization project by providing service alternatives while the work is underway and the train service changes for Memorial Day weekend allows NYC Transit crews to complete a full track replacement of rail and ties in the area of the 125 St station.

The line service changes accommodate replacement of seven switches in Brooklyn. This work began in April and will continue through June. Similarly, the  and  lines will begin critical switch replacement work Memorial Day weekend and have similar service changes, as noted below, for upcoming weekends. More details on this work will be announced at a later date.

These service changes may affect one or more ADA accessible stations. Please contact 511 to plan your trip and for additional travel alternatives, we encourage customers to visit the new.mta.info or check the MYmta app.
