Partner in “Click It or Ticket” National Seat Belt Campaign
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Bridges and Tunnels is participating in a statewide and nationwide mission to focus on traffic safety through the Memorial Day weekend – to promote safe travel during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. In partnership with the NY State Police, the MTA Bridges and Tunnels, also known legally as the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA), is participating in the “Buckle Up New York, Click it or Ticket” campaign, that began on May 23 and runs through June 5, and focuses in ensuring that all motorists and passengers are wearing their seat belts.
In addition to designated seat belt checkpoints, participating law enforcement agencies will be on watch for unbelted passengers and motorists, writing citations throughout the weekend for those not following the law. The initiative’s goal is to increase seat belt and proper child safety seat use, to reduce the risk of injuries in the event of a vehicle collision. The effort is in conjunction with the annual “Click It or Ticket” national campaign that focuses on safety education and law enforcement to promote safe travel.
“Seat belts save lives,” said Daniel F. DeCrescenzo Jr., President, MTA Bridges and Tunnels. “This is an important reminder for our customers as we head into this busy holiday weekend and the warmer weather. It is a collaborative effort to keep everyone safe.”
The initiative is coordinated by NY State Police, local agencies, and the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee. In addition to the current “Covered License Plates are Illegal” messaging, Bridges and Tunnels will include electronic messaging through June 5 that reads “Click it or Ticket” to remind customers the importance of wearing your seat belt and the consequences of not doing so.
