Customers Can Preview Their Everyday Trips in the New Local Bus Network
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced the next milestone leading to the implementation of the Bronx Local Bus Network Redesign on June 26. The new routes are now available for preview via a trip planning tool that allows customers to input a start and end location, and see an overview of their trip with the bus route changes in effect. This trip planning tool can also be found on the project’s main webpage.
After entering their trip information, customers are able to drag the start and end flags across the map and watch their options and routes shift in real time. The MTA encourages bus customers to utilize the trip planning tool to familiarize themselves with the route changes that will be implemented once the Bronx Local Bus Network Redesign is officially launched in seven weeks. As a reminder, express routes remain the same with the implementation of the new bus network.
“The trip planning tool may be the closest method in which customers are able to simulate real-life scenarios before the actual implementation date,” said New York City Transit President Richard Davey. “It helps paint the overall picture of how your trip may change and ease any uncertainty that stems from unfamiliarity of the new local bus network, which has been designed to deliver more reliable and efficient bus service.”
“We are excited to announce that the trip planning tool is now live on the website,” said MTA Bus Company Acting President and New York City Transit Department of Buses Senior Vice President Frank Annicaro. “The trip planning tool provides customers the opportunity to learn and familiarize themselves with routes that most serves them. They can search work, school, medical, and other destinations they frequent and understand if and how their commutes change.”
Public timetables and schedules for the new local bus service will be published and available in June, prior to the launch on June 26. Currently, there are brightly-colored signs at all bus stops on soon-to-be modified routes, alerting customers of the approaching change. This will be followed by additional signage and announcements, reminders and social media engagement on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram at @mta. The project webpage offers route profiles for every local Bronx bus route and a map as additional resources for customers to gain a better understanding and awareness of the improvements to come.
The Bronx Local Bus Network Redesign includes changes to improve local, limited and Select Bus Service (SBS) routes to deliver more efficient and reliable service. The redesigned network focuses on streamlining routes, enhancing connectivity within the borough and to the subway system, improving frequency, shortening travel times, and in partnership with NYC DOT, expanding bus priority.
