Meeting to Review MTA Finances in Light of Federal Failure to Provide Additional COVID-19 Pandemic Funding

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will hold a special virtual meeting of the MTA Board on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m.

Chairman Patrick J. Foye will convene the meeting to discuss MTA finances in light of the federal government’s failure to provide additional COVID-19 pandemic funding, reaffirming the need for $12 billion in federal funding through the end of 2021. No matters are planned for voting by the Board.

The public comment period of the monthly board meeting will also be transformed into a virtual comment period to ensure the public has an opportunity to participate. The MTA will collect public comments via video and phone on Monday, Aug. 24. Those who wish to participate will have the opportunity to register on Monday, Aug. 24, between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., online at https://new.mta.info/transparency/board-and-committee-meetings/august-2020. Registrants will receive an email notice with a link that will allow them to make comments beginning at noon on Aug. 24. In keeping with MTA rules, each speaker will have two minutes of airtime. Participants are required to adhere to the MTA’s Code of Conduct. The first 30 minutes of public comment will be delivered at the board meeting and the remainder will be posted online and made available to the Board and public on Aug. 26.

Members of the media can view the meeting online at the link noted above. The MTA will hold a news conference via Zoom link following the meeting.
