Oyster Bay LIRR Station Is Just Steps Away From the Oyster Festival Entrance

Metro-North Adding Historic Number of Fall Foliage Trains Due to High Ridership

Whether your tastes run toward the freshest oysters or the most stunning fall foliage, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad can take you there and sate your senses with extra services this weekend.

The LIRR is encouraging riders to skip the traffic and take the train to this weekend’s 41st Oyster Fest in Oyster Bay. The railroad is adding trains to accommodate the thousands of expected attendees. The Oyster Festival pays homage to the oyster by serving it in every conceivable form. Aside from the food courts, the festival includes oyster shucking and oyster eating contests, arts and crafts, amusement rides and games and live entertainment.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20, additional trains will run to and from Oyster Bay. Extra eastbound trains will depart Jamaica at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. Extra westbound trains will depart Oyster Bay at 11:59 a.m., 1:59 p.m., 3:59 p.m., and 5:59 p.m.

Customers should have their ticket readily available when they leave the train, as it will be checked at Oyster Bay station before they exit the station. Returning from the festival, LIRR tickets will be inspected on the Oyster Bay station platform, prior to boarding the train.

For a fun day trip, this weekend's LIRR Escorted Tours combine a Gatsby Mansion Tour and the Oyster Festival. See details at mtaaway.com.

Responding to popular demand for day trip leaf-peeping on the Hudson Line, Metro-North is adding two more fall foliage trains on Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20, making it the most fall-foliage service offered in the railroad’s history. In the Hudson Valley, with beautiful weather and the fall foliage expected to be up to 75% of peak colors, Metro-North expects another weekend of high ridership to its popular Hudson Line destinations and is adding more trains than ever to its weekend service.

Extra trains will depart Grand Central Terminal at 8:16 a.m. and 11:39 a.m., stopping at Harlem-125 St and then running express to Peekskill, Manitou, Garrison, Cold Spring, Breakneck Ridge and Beacon. Returning to Manhattan in the afternoon, extra trains will depart Beacon at 2:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., making all stops to Peekskill and then express to Harlem-125 St and Grand Central Terminal.

With the addition of these two round-trips, Metro-North is providing twice-hourly service to Upper Hudson stations between 8:16 a.m. and 11:50 am, and returning from the Upper Hudson between 2:45 p.m. and 6:52 p.m., with hourly service outside of these times.
