What we're doing
From February 17 through February 27, and trains will be rerouted in Manhattan. Downtown trains will run on the line from 5 Av/53 St to W 4 St-Wash Sq and downtown trains will run on the express track in parts of Manhattan. There will be no downtown service at 50 St and 23 St 24/7, for the duration of the week.
Additionally, trains will run on the line between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and 5 Av/53 St. trains will run on the line between Delancey St-Essex St and Chambers St, and won't run along 6 Av or Queens Blvd. Some of these service changes are in effect 24/7 from February 17 through February 27, while others are in effect for only part of this timeframe. See the full breakdown below.
If you would normally take the or trains, you’ll want to plan extra travel time, consider starting your trip on a different line, or make an extra transfer.
Why we're doing it
We're working to complete a lot of projects along the 8 Av line, including:
- Replacing the track switch that allows the downtown train to merge onto the 8 Av line south of 50 St
- Signal installation for 8 Av CBTC
Ridership is significantly lower during President's Day week compared to other weekdays. This means we can fit over an entire month of weekend work into a single ten-day period.
