In mid-August, we implemented mandated wayside Positive Train Control (PTC) operability on our entire system east of the Hudson River.
PTC illustrationAnd, due to a lot of hard work, we achieved this major milestone with PTC operability on 100% of our tracks and we remain on schedule to have full PTC functionality across the railroad by the end of 2020.
All of Metro-North’s diesel trains, as well as all our electric trains on the Harlem and Hudson Lines are now operating in PTC. Technicians are bringing PTC software to the New Haven Line’s M8 electric cars, which will allow New Haven Line trains to enter PTC operations this fall.
“This has been an amazing milestone for Metro-North. Even in the midst of a pandemic, we expect to keep the momentum going through the end of the year, when all trains will be operating with PTC.”
