Bathrooms in subway stations

We're reopening bathrooms with new fixtures, lighting, and a commitment to cleanliness.

About subway station bathrooms

When public bathrooms in the subway system were closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the MTA used the closures to perform needed maintenance and upgrade the facilities.

Bathrooms are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., with a one-hour closure for cleaning from 12 noon-1 p.m.

We are continuing to open more bathrooms on a rolling basis as they are ready after remodeling.

Upgrades to subway bathrooms include:

  • New motion-activated faucets
  • New hand dryers and soap dispensers
  • New painted privacy panels
  • New lighting
  • Tile grouting
  • New signage reflecting hours of operation
  • Ceiling paint
  • Deep cleaning
