On August 23, Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi joined MTA Acting Chair & CEO Janno Lieber, MTA Board Member Michael Fleischer, and others to celebrate the grand opening of the new Harrison station parking garage — a milestone achievement in our Harrison Transit-Oriented Development Project!
In completing Phase I of the project, Metro-North customers now have access to 475 dedicated spots out of 598 total spaces in a brand-new parking garage, just steps away from the outbound platform. What’s more, the new garage bolsters parking capacity at the station by 80%.
With direct access to the Harrison station platform, the garage is equipped with two new elevators and two staircases for customers to use at their convenience. But that’s not all the local community has to look forward to: The new space also features 83 residential units, dedicated retail space, and a public plaza for all to explore and enjoy.
“Improving the customer experience is always at the forefront of our minds,” said Rinaldi. “Once completed the Harrison station TOD will be emblematic of Metro-North's commitment to help transforming the areas around our stations into vibrant destinations.”
Now that the garage is officially open, the final phase of construction can begin. This will include the construction of 60 residential units, added surface parking for prospective tenants, and a second public plaza that will be flanked with retail and commercial space connecting the Harrison Station Overpass to Halstead Avenue.
The transformative project, which broke ground in 2019 after many years of planning, is being developed by AvalonBay Communities in coordination with the MTA and the Town/Village of Harrison. All of these improvements come at no capital cost to the MTA and are expected to be completed by 2023.
