Grand Central Madison, inaugurated in early 2023, is the LIRR’s eastside terminus. Grand Central Madison serves as a portal into and out of New York City while providing the LIRR with a second entry point to Manhattan’s Central Business District, which was for many years served exclusively by Penn Station. With a nod to the historic Grand Central Terminal above, the space includes retail, restaurants, spacious waiting areas and modern technology. Commissioned artworks include permanent glass mosaics by Yayoi Kusama and Kiki Smith, temporary digital artwork and poetry on five monumental LED screens, and a rotating photography lightbox exhibition.

The LIRR expansion project, referred to as East Side Access, also required the construction of a new ventilation building on Roosevelt Island, providing another site for art. See below to explore the artworks commissioned for the East Side Access project.
