About the Artist

Holly Sears was born and raised in southwestern Virginia, and received a BFA and MFA in painting and lithography from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Sears moved to Brooklyn, New York in the early 1980s, where she continues to live and work. She creates highly realized naturalist paintings in which unnatural combinations of flora and fauna are introduced. Sears meticulously studies and examines her subjects and rearranges them into pointed, almost believable settings.
