About the project

In “Euphorbias,” the artist uses botanical imagery as a metaphor for life and growth in the communities that surround the elevated Kosciuszko St station. The artwork consists of 16 faceted glass panels and creates the sensation of growth, as if energy is radiating outward from the center of the images to the tips of the forms. Brightly colored plants, some of which resemble the sun and its rays, are in full bloom on the platform.

About the artist

Ron Calloway (1954-2002) was interested in art from a young age, when he began designing costumes for parades for children in the neighborhood. Calloway’s vision grew with him into adulthood, expanding from organizing and directing parades for his neighbors to becoming an accomplished artist. Calloway continued to make art throughout his life, plucking images from his mind’s eye to make compositions that explore themes of community, nature, and bold theatricality.
