About the Project

"Duration," located at Prospect Av station, was created by Monika Bravo, a Colombian-born, Brooklyn-based artist who has created site-specific, public installations in the U.S. and internationally. Bravo works with animation, sound, photography, and digital technology to explore time, space, and memory. Arising from her ongoing research of color and rhythm, the bold abstract patterns seen in "Duration" seem to pulsate with vibrant waves of energy. Data and material are woven together to create a new code that connects technology, process, and illusion. The composition layers forms drawn from Modern Abstraction, pixelated satellite images presented in mosaic tesserae, and historical maps and photos of the nearby waterfront.
