About the project

In “Dream Train,” Chris Wade Robinson pays tribute to the spirit of the subway in his 16 panels of faceted glass that narrate the daily motions of residents interacting with the movement of trains through the urban landscape. "A simple subway ride is a cultural exploration, a cross-section of a city as it moves from past to present and on to tomorrow. All races, creeds, and colors interconnect on a common path to an endless variety of destinations. Each rider is enriched by daily discoveries of new faces, places, and things," Robinson says. "They are vignettes made of memory and experience, an ode to a lifetime spent riding in and dreaming on the train, as it speeds through the darkness and into the light."

About the artist

Artist and native New Yorker Chris Wade Robinson is known for his abstract paintings. By layering heavy impasto with thin washes of color, Robinson seeks to reference the mythic powers of ancient ruins and distant galaxies. Robinson uses his practice to enrich his community and was one of the creators and key organizers of the “Awareness Through Art Mural Project” that created arts education opportunities for thousands of New York City school children and the development of hundreds of murals. As important member of New York’s artistic and activist community, Robinson continues to live and work in Brooklyn, pushing his art in new and exciting directions.
