About the Project

“Community Garden” is a glass mosaic mural that fills the entire mezzanine wall at the Bedford Park Blvd – Lehman College subway station. The imagery depicts a lush fantasy garden of colorful, oversized fruit, vines, insects, and animals. In Dezsö's garden, the community can experience the artist's lush imagination through her rich colors and enchanting animal forms. Her garden is intended to delight commuters, inspiring them with the playful images and intense colors.

About the Artist

Andrea Dezsö is a visual artist who works across a broad range of media including drawing, painting, embroidery, cut paper, animation, sculpture, site-specific installation, and public art. Born and raised in Communist Romania, Dezsö was restricted from traveling, and thus took to traveling through her imagination and the world of books, lending a fantastical element to her artwork. A master of visual storytelling, Dezsö’s illustrations have appeared in major publications, notably Harper’s and Newsweek, and her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. She is also a talented professor, including courses taught at RISD.
