Make a FOIL request

The Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) provides that any person has the right to request copies of specific MTA and related agency documents. If you are not requesting specific records under FOIL but have a complaint, commendation, question, or need general information, please use our customer feedback portal.

Guides to common FOIL requests

We receive some FOIL requests fairly frequently. We’ve put together guides on what to include with those requests. Those include:

  • Metrocard transaction history
  • Train/Bus delay letters

Submit a request online

The best way to submit your FOIL request is through our online portal. You must submit your FOIL request to the appropriate MTA Agency. If you send your FOIL request to the wrong agency, you will not receive the records you are seeking.
