Freedom of Information Law Request

This page is ONLY for submitting requests for copies of records under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). If you are not requesting copies of records under FOIL but are only seeking information, visit the MTA Customer Information page.

You must submit your FOIL request to the appropriate MTA Agency. If you send your FOIL request to the wrong agency, you will not receive the records you are seeking.

Requests for records under the Freedom of Information Law may be submitted online, via email, or by USPS. Select the appropriate link below for more information about submitting a FOIL Request. To those sending email or USPS FOIL requests, suggested sample text is provided below under 'Submit via Email'.

Many records exist only on paper and cannot be sent back to you via e-mail. It is therefore necessary for you to include your name, address and phone number. Records can be made available for inspection and copying by appointment only, at a location to be determined by the responsible FOIL Officer.
