Make a FOIL request

The Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) provides that any person has the right to request copies of specific MTA and related agency documents. If you are not requesting specific records under FOIL but have a complaint, commendation, question, or need general information, please use our customer feedback portal.

Submit a FOIL request online

The best way to submit your FOIL request is through our online portal. Please submit your request only once. We have centralized our FOIL processing and requests are handled by a single team. Do not use this portal for requesting copies of a police report. We have made a separate portal for that.

Request a Copy of an MTA PD Police Report

We have launched a specific portal for requesting a copy of a police report. This is no longer part of the FOIL process. A specific portal will help us sort and process these requests faster. Please use the new portal rather than the FOIL request portal. This portal is just for reports created by the MTA Police Department. You can request a copy of a a police report from the New York City Police Department here

Guides to common FOIL requests

We receive some FOIL requests fairly frequently. We’ve put together guides on what to include with those requests. Those include:

  • MetroCard® transaction history
  • Train/Bus delay letters

Submit a request by mail

We strongly urge you to submit your request online. To make a request via mail, send it to the following address:
