Montauk Branch Service Change

For two consecutive nights — Tuesday, September 7 to Wednesday, September 8, and again from Wednesday, September 8 to Thursday, September 9 — buses will substitute for trains between Babylon and Speonk/Montauk as we test the tracks to ensure rail safety. All Port Washington Branch trains will be making stops at Mets-Willets Point for the US Open (August 30-September 12) and the Mets-Yankees Subway Series (September 10-12). Below are some travel tips and advisories to help plan your trip.

West Hempstead Branch Service Change

On Wednesday, September 1, buses will substitute for morning and midday trains between West Hempstead and Valley Stream as we test the tracks to ensure rail safety.

Westbound customers: Buses will depart West Hempstead through Westwood up to 20 minutes earlier than usual train times.

Eastbound customers: Please plan for up to 20 minutes of additional travel time.

Starting Monday, August 30, and continuing through Monday, September 6, new timetables will be in effect on all LIRR branches following the completion of this summer’s installation of new, longer-lasting concrete ties on the Port Washington Branch. All customers should check revised schedules for new departure and connection times.

Long Beach Branch

About the South Fork Commuter Connection

The South Fork Commuter Connection (SFCC) is a coordinated rail and bus system created to operate during peak commuting hours in order to provide workers with a public transportation travel option. The SFCC started on Monday, March 4, 2019, and was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. We are pleased to announce it will resume service on September 7, 2021.

Service Change Overview

Special weekend timetables will be in effect for all branches on the weekends of September 11-12 and 18-19 while we perform switch work near Merillon Avenue as part of the LIRR Expansion Project.

To allow this work to proceed, the LIRR will suspend Main Line train service between Hicksville and Jamaica.

Oyster Bay Branch Service Change

On Sunday, August 29, three Oyster Bay Branch trains (two westbound, one eastbound) will terminate/originate in Locust Valley to accommodate the annual Greater Long Island Running Club Triathlon. Bus service will be provided to/ from Oyster Bay.

Project Overview

The east end overpass replacement project will modernize the infrastructure at Huntington Station with a new, enclosed overpass featuring glass panel walls, brighter LED lighting, and CCTV security cameras. To help ensure construction activity proceeds safely, the following changes will go into effect:

Monday, August 30: As site mobilization begins, there will be changes to parking availability and parking garage access points.   

Added Service at Forest Hills

The LIRR will provide extra service for fans attending the Dropkick Murphys and Rancid concert at Forest Hills Stadium on Saturday, August 28. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m.; show begins at 6:00 p.m.
