Added Service at Forest Hills

The LIRR will provide extra service for fans attending the NAS Benefiting City Harvest concert at Forest Hills Stadium on Thursday, September 23. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.; show begins at 8 p.m.

On the weekends of September 25-26 and October 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, we will be modernizing our track infrastructure by installing new, longer-lasting concrete ties on a busy portion of track between Jamaica and Valley Stream. See below for how this may affect your travel plans.

On Wednesday, September 15, the LIRR will provide added service for customers leaving work in the early afternoon in observance of Yom Kippur. Ten additional eastbound trains will depart Penn Station between 12:43 p.m. and 3:48 p.m., and one local train to Hicksville will be extended to Huntington.

Ronkonkoma Branch

  • 12:43 p.m. train stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, and Hicksville, then local to Ronkonkoma

Montauk Branch Service Change

From September 14-16 and 21-23, midday Montauk Branch trains will operate on adjusted schedules as we test the tracks to ensure rail safety. Some trains between Babylon and Patchogue/Speonk are cancelled – substitute bus service will be provided, or you can use other remaining trains.

Montauk Branch Service Change

For two consecutive nights — Tuesday, September 7 to Wednesday, September 8, and again from Wednesday, September 8 to Thursday, September 9 — buses will substitute for trains between Babylon and Speonk/Montauk as we test the tracks to ensure rail safety. All Port Washington Branch trains will be making stops at Mets-Willets Point for the US Open (August 30-September 12) and the Mets-Yankees Subway Series (September 10-12). Below are some travel tips and advisories to help plan your trip.

West Hempstead Branch Service Change

On Wednesday, September 1, buses will substitute for morning and midday trains between West Hempstead and Valley Stream as we test the tracks to ensure rail safety.

Westbound customers: Buses will depart West Hempstead through Westwood up to 20 minutes earlier than usual train times.

Eastbound customers: Please plan for up to 20 minutes of additional travel time.

Starting Monday, August 30, and continuing through Monday, September 6, new timetables will be in effect on all LIRR branches following the completion of this summer’s installation of new, longer-lasting concrete ties on the Port Washington Branch. All customers should check revised schedules for new departure and connection times.

Special weekend timetables will be in effect for all branches on the weekends of September 11-12 and 18-19 while we perform switch work near Merillon Avenue as part of the LIRR Expansion Project.

To allow this work to proceed, the LIRR will suspend Main Line train service between Hicksville and Jamaica.
