Long Island Rail Road customers should anticipate some train cancelations, diversions and delays during today's AM Peak due to Monday evening's derailment inside one of Amtrak's East River tunnels.

With the conclusion of the Tuesday evening rush hour, the Long Island Rail Road trains has returned to its normal weekday schedule. The LIRR plans to issue an updated service plan for Wednesday morning's rush hour before 5 a.m. LIRR customers are advised to check the Service Status box at left and monitor television and radio news reports for the latest information before heading out in the morning.

There are eastbound delays up to 15 minutes along with some cancellations out of Penn due to a disabled train in one of the East River tunnels. There is no westbound service between Jamaica and Penn and between Woodside and Penn. NYC Transit is cross honoring westbound fares on the E train at Jamaica and on the 7 train at Woodside. Eight eager and well-trained canines – joined by their human partners – entered the ranks of the MTA Police Department’s Canine Unit at a graduation ceremony held on Friday, June 14, 2013, in Grand Central Terminal. The canines, who are roughly 1½ years old and are German Shepherds or German Shepherd/Belgian Shepherd mixes, completed an intensive 14-week course with their human partners in which they learned all aspects of explosives detection, recognition and handling. The MTA K-9 Unit is believed to be the largest such force in the nation, with 50 canines in service.

FASTRACK Rides the A Line This Week in Upper Manhattan
We brought our FASTRACK maintenance program to Queens this week with hundreds of Transit workers descending into tunnels and stations on the Queens Boulevard Line, replacing and repairing items from light bulbs to damaged structural steel.

The first of several ramps being reconstructed and rehabilitated as part of the $50 million toll plaza improvement project at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is opening at Narrows Road South in June. Once the new Brooklyn-bound entrance ramp opens, the old ramp and a portion of the Narrows Road South exit ramp that leads to Lily Pond Avenue will be demolished to make way for the new lower level connector ramp, which will lead motorists directly from the Staten Island Expressway onto the bridge’s lower level

With soaring temperatures and sunny skies, there could have been no better day to bring back [A] and [S] Train service to the Rockaways. The Occasion was marked by a ride on a vintage subway train and a ceremony held at the beach 116 Street station, attended by Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) representatives and local elected officials who all joined to reopen the line with a ceremonial ride from Howard Beach.
Service on the #1 line has resumed in both directions following a derailment involving a downtown #1 train between 125th St and 116th St Wednesday evening.
There is no 1 train service in both directions between 96th Street and 168th Street due to a rail condition outside 125th Street. Please monitor Service Status on this page for the latest updates.

The Cannonball, the Long Island Rail Road's fastest train to the East End, is now running non-stop from Manhattan for the first time since the train was introduced back in the 1890s. It arrives in Westhampton 94 minutes after departing from Penn Station, with follow-up stops at Southampton, East Hampton, Bridgehampton and Montauk. It's a one-seat, $27 ride, with reserved seating available for an extra charge. The Cannonball has traditionally departed from the Hunterspoint Avenue Station in Long Island City, Queens, but now it's running from Penn Station. It made its inaugural run from Penn on May 24, 2013.

Full New Haven Line service resumed on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, following a derailment in Bridgeport on May 17 and subsequent track reconstruction.
For the first time in four days, Metro-North will operate regular service between New York and New Haven. The service restoration follows round the work to repair damaged track infrastructure caused when a Metro-North train derailed in Bridgeport and was struck by another train going in the opposite direction on Friday, May 17th.
Flood Mitigation Work Begins at 7 Downtown Stations
Reconstruction of track infrastructure damaged in a derailment last Friday has progressed to such a degree that Metro-North announced plans today to resume regular train service on the New Haven Line in time for the AM Peak on Wednesday.
MTA Metro-North Railroad and the Connecticut Department of Transportation have developed an alternate transportation plan for the east end of the New Haven Line, while intensive reconstruction efforts continue around the clock. This 31-mile section of track has been without train service since Friday night when a train derailed, affecting 30,000 customers.
The LIRR’s proposal to build track extensions at the existing Port Washington Yard will immediately improve train service for Port Washington Branch customers and also will mean more service to the East Side of Manhattan at Grand Central Terminal once the East Side Access project is completed.
The $109 million project to reconstruct and widen the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge’s Queens approach begins in June with an around-the-clock closure of one roadway lane but using a movable barrier system three lanes of traffic will be maintained during peak commuting hours.

Purchasing Long Island Rail Road tickets at Penn Station just became a little easier with the debut of an automated queuing system that directs customers to the window staffed by next available ticket clerk.

FASTRACK A Success on the N/R 4th Avenue Line
Some 70 soloists and groups performed in Grand Central Terminal on May 13 as part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s 26th annual auditions for its Music Under New York (MUNY) program. The auditions are held each year to add new talent to the program, which is administered by MTA Arts for Transit and Urban Design and presents 7,500 performances annually in the MTA’s subways and railroads.

Nearly a hundred app developers gathered during the weekend of May 4-5 for an intensive weekend-long collaboration/competition that resulted in the creation of 17 concepts for apps to help MTA riders.
